We are on the cusp of 2025, which will represent the 50th year anniversary of the end of the War in Southeast Asia and a new Trump presidency. Five decades later, Southeast Asian refugees are still experiencing the residual impacts of war and genocide that took place in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. The legacy of war and trauma our communities have experienced and trying to heal from has only been exacerbated by the deportation crisis that has been taking place for over 20+ years. Time and time again, as our organizations have risen up to support Southeast Asian refugees who have been detained, at risk of deportation, and deported, they have all shared similar stories and experiences of resettlement to the United States as refugees and the challenges they encountered - lack of access to services and resources due to language barriers, being resettled in underresourced and divested neighborhoods, racial discrimination and violence, as well as the federal policies in the 1990s that began to funnel Southeast Asian community members into the prison-to-deportation pipeline.

With much urgency, we are demanding that President Biden and his administration be accountable to our most directly impacted community members by granting federal pardons to all Southeast Asian refugees before his term ends.

Join us on Monday - Dec. 9th @ 6:30pmEST as we launch our pardon week of action. This national call will discuss this political moment and to share resources. You can sign up using this [Link to sign up] and show your support by signing onto this letter.

In solidarity,

Chhaya

Hi all! I wont be able to join tonight's AA leader huddle but I sent Lee this note: Hi Lee!Thanks for pulling the meeting together tonight. As I mentioned, I’m unavailable (hosting family) though I wanted to offer up a thought.I reviewed your agenda and I appreciate the ecosystem framework. As a systems nerd, I totally agree that that is the right approach. One key stakeholder group that should be part of the conversation sooner than later are those who are likely to be most adversely impacted by the new administration’s policies – undocumented immigrants, LGTBQ+, poor families. I’d strongly recommend two strategies – one) opportunities for listening and healing with the affected communities 2) sharing information with affected communities re: actions they can take now (for example, signing up for ARI’s citizenship clinic in Feb.). It may also be a good idea to co-host workshops and/or citizenship clinics. In 2016/2017, I worked with SacBHC and Sac Covered to conduct several naturalization clinics to help communities take advantage of the fee waiver. These are just a few examples, there are many others but wanted to lift these up as opportunities for action, if they’re helpful. In Community,
Elaine
