The idea of how aesthetics relate to dance is one that has taken off in the realm of dance and inspired many choreographers. I chose aesthetics as I believe that the study of its intersection with dance has continually influenced the dance world and furthered dance studies.

Dance history is important as it looks to the past of the world of dance to learn from it and create the future. I chose to include dance history as I do not believe it is possible to have the field of dance studies without it.

Composition & Choreography

Composition and choreography are elements that work together when one is bringing a vision to life. Compositional skills of understanding shapes, music, and set design join forces with choreographing the movements of a dancer's body to create the great works of dance that audiences see. I chose to include this as an important idea in the field of dance studies as I believe that one studying dance should be familiar with how some of their favorite works came to be.
