Abby Wambach was the youngest of 7. She had 4 brothers and 2 sisters. At an early age Abby was introduced to sports. When she started playing soccer she was so good that her parents felt she needed to be challenged and decided to sign her up in a boys league. This is when she knew she loved soccer. She continued playing soccer and soon she attended Our Lady of Mercy High School. In High School Abby joined soccer and basketball. Abby was accepted into the University of Florida and decided to drop basketball and concentrate in one sport, soccer. Twice she was recognized with the Southeastern Conference Player of the year award.

On October 5, 2013; Abby Wambach married Sarah Huffman. They were married for 3 years and then on October 3, 2016 they divorced. I was disappointed to find out that in April of 2016; Abby was arrested for drunk driving. She said “Those that know me know that I have always demanded excellence from myself. I have let myself and others down. I take full responsibility for my actions. This is all on me. I promise that I will do whatever it takes to ensure that my horrible mistake is never repeated. I am so sorry to my family, friends, fans and those that look to follow a better example.” It was good to hear that from Abby. Even though she is one of the greatest athletes in the world, she is humble enough to accept her faults.
On May 14, 2017; Abby Wambach got married to Glennon Doyle. She now lives in Rochester, New York with her wife. Now retired Abby is fighting for equality. She says “Now that I’ve retired from the soccer field, I’m making it my mission to ensure that all people feel like they have the same rights as anybody else.”

An impressive fact about her is that, “Abby Wambach Day” was announced to be celebrated on 20th of July. This announcement was made in July 2011 by the mayor of Rochester, New York. It was, indeed a highest degree of honor for any player. She was also given a key to the New York City. Another impressive fact about her is that, she won 2012 FIFA World Player of the Year Award. It is one of the most prestigious awards in the football game. Most interestingly, she is the fourth ever player to win this award and perhaps the first American player to grab the honor since Mia Hamm (one of Abby Wambachs former teammates) who won this title about a decade ago.
