Formula 1 - Introduction (Part 1)

I think there are 3 types of people in this world:
1. The ardent Formula 1 fans, those who watch all the races and live to the fullest every overtaking, every safety car, in short, every incident on the track.
2. People who don't know much about Formula 1 but have a vague idea about the sport.
3. And in the last category are those who have lived under a rock, BUT still heard the name Schumacher or Hamilton at least once in their life.

To be honest, until a few months ago I was in the third category. Moreover, I could have sworn that Schumacher is a performance skier. Out of my ignorance, I turned the great Ferrari driver, winner of the 7 Formula 1 World Championships, into a mere sportsman. (Most likely the confusion comes from the terrible skiing accident he suffered)
I've heard of Hamilton, the Mercedes driver, who has won as many titles as Schumacher, but I've never had the curiosity to even see what he looks like.
Eventually, I got to know who these people were and even developed a passion for the sport they play.

It all started when my sister followed the young Ferrari driver, Charles Leclerc, on a social network, not necessarily knowing what he was doing. Being a dazzling beauty, it didn't take my sister long to learn more about him. Thus begins our adventure in the fantastic world of Formula 1.

At first, she watched the races without necessarily understanding what was going on, looking only for a red number 16 car belonging to the young Monegasque. But because the sport is addictive, it didn't take long for her to want to know more about it. And of course, he taught me too. I can say that it is a big problem because it is a sport that is considered to be enjoyed on average only by men.

Formula 1 - Introduction (Part 2)

The first race I watched was at Silverstone, Great Britain. The first Formula 1 race took place here, in 1950. I couldn't say that I necessarily understood everything that was happening, but that race stayed in my soul. It was much better than many series/movies I have seen on Netflix. I watched every overtaking, pit stop, safety car, and radio broadcast with bated breath. Everything seemed to me from a very well-directed movie. And the victory of the Ferrari pilot, Carlos Sainz, was a well-deserved one, especially since his colleague started from the pole position.
Even though a race lasts on average 01:30 – 02:00 hours, it seemed to me that only half an hour had passed.

I was impressed that the pit stop team can change a set of envelopes in less than 3 seconds (what can they do in 3 seconds?). It's fascinating that the car reaches speeds of over 300 km/h and most of the drivers are only a few years older than me. When I think that I feel like I'm flying when I go 130 on the highway.
In any case, every second counts in this sport, and the drivers have trained from an early age to withstand the conditions, but also to be the fastest.

All I can say is that I was pretty disappointed when I found out I had to wait a week to see the next race.

The main factor that facilitated the fame that Formula 1 enjoys among the youth of today was the series on Netflix - Drive to survive. I am not the only one who says this, the statistics also confirm it. Although I did not learn about formula 1 from this source, many did. And that's fine, even if the series isn't meant to be take seriously, as it's more of a Reality Show than a documentary. Which is why most pilots complained about the veracity of some information.

If I have already made a brief introduction of what formula 1 means to most people, and me, now I will try to talk a little about my 4 favorite teams (Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren, and Red Bull).

And I'll start with Mercedes. Although my sister's passion for Formula 1 started with Ferrari, I decided to choose an equally competitive team with numerous titles won and at least as famous in the sport. The team consists of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell. Both pilots are British.

Lewis Hamilton – He is an extremely talented driver, but also an admirable person. As a little history, Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton was born on January 7, 1985, and is a British racing driver who competes in Formula One for Mercedes. He holds the record for the most races won (103), but also the record for the most Formula 1 World Championships won (7), a record he shares with Michael Schumacher.

Hamilton debuted in Formula 1 with the McLaren team in 2007, and in 2013 he joined the Mercedes team. He has also become a prominent advocate in support of activism to combat racism and push for increased diversity in motorsport.

George Russell, born 15 February 1998, is a British racing driver currently competing in Formula One for Mercedes. He was the 2018 FIA Formula 2 champion and the 2017 GP3 Series champion. Russell signed for Williams in 2019, making his debut at the 2019 Australian Grand Prix, although he stood in for Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix.

Toto Wolff, born on 12 January 1972, is an Austrian billionaire motorsport executive, investor, and former racing driver. He holds a 33% stake in the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team and is the Team Principal and CEO of the team.

About this season:

The Mercedes drivers didn't necessarily have a competitive car this year, which is why Hamilton finished 6th overall in the drivers' standings and Russell 4th. Team boss Toto Wolff gave an interview where he said that the entire team of engineers is working to try to fix the situation next year.

Notable Races:

One of the best races for the Mercedes team this year was in São Paulo, when young George Russell won his first race since being in Formula 1 (and the only race won by a Mercedes driver this season).

A series on my "must-watch" list is The Sopranos.
I started this series 2 years ago and I finished it in a year (I'm not in a hurry to finish the series), but I can call it one of the best series in its category.
With a score of 9.2 on IMDB, The Sopranos was made between 1999-2007, having 6 seasons with a total of 86 episodes, being broadcast on the HBO MAX platform.

The Sopranos is an American crime drama television series created by David Chase. The story revolves around Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini), a New Jersey-based Italian-American mobster, portraying his difficulties as he tries to balance family life with his role as leader of a criminal organization. These are explored during his therapy sessions with psychiatrist Jennifer Melfi (Lorraine Bracco).
This is the general data about the series. Since countless reviews have been written about it, I decided to talk about a slightly more recent film, also inspired by The Sopranos - The Many Saints of Newark.
The movie has a 6.3 on IMDB, but in my opinion, it deserves more.
Maybe this low score comes from the idea that you have to watch the series first,
which gives you a base of events, just after the movie. Nothing more fake. The script was written by
David Chase and Lawrence Konner.
In short, it's pretty good and someone who hasn't seen The Sopranos can easily enjoy the beauty of this movie. Not to the max, but it's not that relevant to have watched the series.
The score might increase over time if we look at the data - was released quite recently.

I recommend watching the series, but also the movie, because true fans will be happy to be able to understand where the whole story of the famous series begins.

The economic war between China and the USA - PART 1

To start with a little history, the events unfolded as follows:
In World War II, the US supported China against Japan in the Pacific War. After the war, in 1949, when the then-Chinese government took refuge in Taiwan, fleeing the face of Mao's troops, the Americans continued to recognize it as the legitimate government. Their support went as far as blocking the People's Republic of China's access to the United Nations.

But the position of the Americans changed 20 years later when they realized that this is how things will be in the future and that communism in China will remain. So in 72, a historic event takes place: Nixon visits China and meets with Mao. In 79, Nixon recognized the People's Republic of China and its communist government as the sole government under the so-called One China policy.

This move had 2 reasons, one obvious, that it had become clear that the government in exile had no chance and that a country of 1 billion people was hard to ignore.
And the second objective was the isolation of the Soviet Union perceived at the time as the real threat.

Automatically the relations with separatist Taiwan were lowered by the Americans to the most informal level and the communist government in Beijing received assurances that the province could at some point be reassimilated.

But beyond these political reasons, as clear as can be, this move by Nixon had equally important economic and commercial reasons.

The trade embargo was lifted, an embargo that had been in place on China for more than 30 years, and economic ties between the world's richest and most populous country would explode in the 1980s under Deng Xiaoping, Mao's successor.
and for many decades this collaboration would prove extremely profitable on both sides.

And this is how the circle closes. America is cutting itself off from China. Relocation of production at home or on the territory of trusted partners. Policies and measures aimed at isolating the opponent.
Of course, China doesn't sit idly by either and does the same thing, a double game with Russia, looking for alliances and partnerships with countries like the Btrcs, Iran or Argentina, and so on.
And look like that, slowly but surely, the world is becoming bipolar again, literally and figuratively, dividing into two economic, commercial, and finally military blocs. And that can only be sad.

The impact of technology on the environment. Nuclear experiments - Part 1

Considering the continuous development of society, humanity needs increasing amounts of energy and that is why there are countries that have resorted to the use of nuclear energy, this being the energy that is produced almost continuously and does not depend on phenomena such as wind or sunlight. Nuclear energy is a "clean" fuel in that it does not produce polluting gases like burning fossil fuels.
Although at first sight, it does not seem to have negative effects, analyzing the production process of nuclear energy we deduce that it has multiple disadvantages, which under certain conditions can have very serious consequences.
A disadvantage of atomic energy is the problem of disposal of radioactive waste, which is very acute for the entire world community. Landfilling waste is risky, expensive, and raises serious environmental issues. There are already methods of vitrification, bituminization, and cementation of radioactive waste from nuclear power plants, but territories are needed for the construction of repositories, where this waste will be placed for eternal storage. Countries with a small area and high population density have serious difficulties in solving this problem.
Another disadvantage of nuclear energy is radioactive pollution. This occurs due to the emission and propagation in space of some radiations, capable of producing physical, chemical, and biological effects. The biosphere can be damaged or destroyed using elements in ecosystems that have been subjected to alpha, beta, and gamma radiation. The most dangerous radionuclides are the long-lived ones emitted by nuclear reactors: strontium 90 lasts 28 years, and cesium 137 years, even half a century. These deadly radioactive elements concentrate in the soil, from where they easily pass to plants and animals. For example, in the northern areas of Europe and America, where nuclear experiments have been carried out, lichens store radioactive cesium, and reindeer, which feed on lichens, in turn, store isotopes. By consuming reindeer meat, the Lapps loaded themselves with radioactive isotopes tens of times more than other Nordic populations, which were not nuclear contaminated.
The effects of radioactive pollution on the human body can be very dangerous. Just as the sun can burn the skin, ionizing radiation can also cause damage to the body. Exposure to a very high dose of radiation can quickly lead to skin burns, vomiting, and internal bleeding. Prolonged exposure to lower doses of radiation can cause delayed onset of cancer and possibly hereditary diseases.
The discovery of nuclear energy took place during a world war, which made the application first used for military purposes.
The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki consisted of two nuclear attacks involving the dropping of two atomic bombs produced by the United States of America at the end of World War II on two cities in Japan, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki. At the time of the dropping of the two atomic bombs, although the war in Europe had ended with the unconditional surrender of Germany, Japan and the United States of America were still at war. One of the worst nuclear accidents occurred in Chornobyl on April 26, 1986. At 01:23 at night, there was a major accident in the nuclear power plant, which consisted of an explosion of the plant, followed by radioactive contamination of the surrounding area. The power plant was located near the city of Prîpeat, Ukraine. This disaster is considered to be the worst accident in the history of nuclear power. A cloud of radioactive fallout headed toward the western parts of the Soviet Union, Europe, and the eastern parts of North America. Large areas of Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia were heavily contaminated, with approximately 336,000 people evacuated.
Another major nuclear accident also occurred in Fukushima-Daiichi on March 11, 2011, at the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan, which consists of 4 nuclear reactors, following the earthquake in the northeast of the country at 14:46, followed by a massive tsunami. On March 15, the authorities in Tokyo announced that an explosion occurred at the Fukushima reactor (unit) 2 that damaged its casing, thus causing an increase in radioactivity in the surrounding area.
The importance of the consequences of possible nuclear incidents was the main reason why nuclear activity attracted attention both at the international level and at the level of the states, thus imposing its rigorous regulation.
One of the most important international treaties, which regulates the conditions for carrying out a nuclear activity, is the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons whose objectives are: nuclear disarmament and complete disarmament in general, prevention of the spread of nuclear weapons and their technology, promotion of cooperation for the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
Nuclear safety concerns the safe operation of nuclear facilities, along with radiological protection and radioactive waste management. The EU promotes the highest safety standards for all types of civil nuclear activities, including energy production, research, and medical use. Member States need to create national frameworks for nuclear safety requirements, licensing of nuclear power plants, oversight, and enforcement

School success and school failure - Part 1

Most of the school successes, achieved up to now, are due to my ambitious personality, which does not conceive that there are things that we cannot achieve through hard work. From an early age, I was guided by the principle that: it is precisely the possibility of fulfilling your dream that makes life interesting. So, the first internal condition that led to my academic success is motivation. A concrete situation that attests to this fact is recorded from the moment of my participation in the religion olympiad. At first, I did not believe that achieving this goal was possible, not being familiar with the subject. The homogenization of the teacher's devotion (from that subject), along with my ounce of motivation, worked wonders. I was not a little surprised when I found out that I took 2nd place, among the 8th-grade students from Sibiu county. Although the national exams were near, I decided to jump into a new challenge. All this proves that, with enough motivation, the sky is the limit.
One of my favorite hobbies is accumulating as much knowledge as possible in different fields. For example, I often use my free time to listen to different shows, having topics such as technology, economy, history, etc. Having said that, a second internal condition concerns the knowledge I have accumulated. A clear example of this is presented by the very habit that has taken root since the primary classes. Back then we used to go through the textbooks we got from school and read the things we found interesting. This passion of mine has often led to achieving better results at school, in the context where we try to answer quite often during class (especially in natural sciences, lessons in which the teacher congratulates me).
An internal condition, which influenced my success, in a negative sense this time, is emotionality - (biological factors). Although this does not seem to be a detrimental factor in the school process, the reality is a little harsher. Because of this, I often encountered "blocks" in terms of wanting to accomplish something productive. For example, the compositions we get to make in Romanian, or in any other subject, are particularly difficult for me to verbalize in front of the class. I often prefer to remain silent, even if I would like my colleagues to listen to them. Another inconvenience is the fact that the teacher can't give me feedback on the things I did well or on the things I did wrong.
Another school failure has as the main "culprit" the internal condition - attention. This is also accentuated by my learning style, which happens to be predominantly visual. Many times, during classes, it is difficult for me to retain information, without having visual support by my side. A clear example is represented by the activity in the classroom, from the physics lesson (in general). The teacher explains to us, orally, how to solve a problem received as homework, which most of them failed to complete. I tried to focus on what he was saying, but halfway through the explanation, I realized I had lost my train of thought. When he finished explaining, he called us to the table intending to solve that requirement. It happened that I was the first to be called, even though I only knew how to start the problem, not how to finish it. In the meantime, I also trained my auditory learning by listening to audiobooks and podcasts. However, I consider the event in that physics class to be a school failure.
The first external condition, which I consider to be a school success, is recorded by the characteristics of the class of students. A significant change for me is marked by the transition between secondary school and pre-university. Although this step is a big change for most students, in my case the transition was even steeper. Being from the countryside, the environment in which I followed the previous levels of education, it was quite difficult for me to come to terms with the idea that from now on, for 5 days a week I will be away from my parents, and I also added the fact that I was in a city that I didn't know very well.

School success/school failure - Part 2

All that being said, when I started school, which is 9th grade, it was quite difficult for me. Knowing that I will have more fierce "competition" in this new collective, this thought led me to countless worries about my school situation, being quite competitive. That's why my first test, indeed, initially, went in a slightly unpleasant manner. I was convinced that all my colleagues knew exactly the answers to the exercises, and besides that, they also had a much more elevated expression than mine. Thinking about what I assumed others "knew" was the real reason I didn't excel on that test. I'm proud to say that I got rid of this worry along the way, realizing the importance that my preparation plays in this whole process and not that of others. Although at first, it caused me a certain amount of concern, at the moment I am satisfied that there is this supposed competitiveness between me and my colleagues, which, at least in my case, leads to obvious progress.
Another external factor that has positively influenced my school's success is the close relationship I have with our teachers. Although the general tendency of students is to complain about the techniques used by teachers, in my case, things are different. Currently studying at a pedagogical high school, the teacher-educator profile, and the relationship with the teachers is much more effective. They are no longer just our teachers but become kind parents or even friends. Ever since the beginning of 11th grade, I have dreaded the moment when I would teach. Even though I was familiar with the theory of how the lessons/activities are conducted, I did not feel ready to take on the role of a teacher. The children, the educator/teacher, and the Methodist teacher, who is often the classroom teacher, were then the main factors of concern. However, the first time I taught, at an online event, was magical. Great credit goes to the Romanian language teacher, who stayed with me on the phone until she made sure that my plan was complete and well-structured. And the teacher is not a singular example, most of the teachers who teach in our class would do the same. And this experience helped me to perfect my teaching techniques, being an evolution for me.
As I repeated in the previous argument, high school represented me, especially in the first year, a rather difficult period. The first external condition that harmed my educational process is the degree of difficulty of the materials. I wanted all the things I do to be perfect, from learning the materials by heart (Romanian language, history, etc.), to solving a multitude of exercises and problems (mathematics, chemistry). Maybe these statements are specific to students, but the accumulation of multiple tests in one week was devastating. Even though I was able to get by in human subjects, learning the materials, and real subjects gave me a little more to think about. For example, the math thesis (which was also accompanied by one more test that day and two more the next day, in different subjects) required a lot of work. Although I started the preparation in time, I was not able to assimilate all the information received. The multitude of formulas, theorems, and problems, which require a complex solution, gave me a few headaches. Thus, the degree of difficulty of the material represented a factor in my academic failure.
The last condition that influenced me negatively is represented by: the competence of the teaching staff. I have never been a fan of foreign languages, even though I understand their importance and significance. The first tangents with them were a little demoralizing. We started studying English at school in the first grade. I was very excited about this subject, knowing that most of my favorite songs (from cartoons) were in this language. However, on the first day, some strange symbols appeared on the board (I would later find out they were about phonetics). Mr. Teacher did not take into account that he was teaching first grade, a class fresh out of kindergarten, and continued to teach (every hour for 8 years) in an inappropriate style. My colleagues, quite noisy, constituted another factor that led to the difficulty of the didactic process, in the context in which the teacher in the class never stopped the noise or paid attention to them in any way.
To conclude, the success of learning occurs as a result of combining both types of conditions, external and internal.
