1. What is earth's atmosphere? A thin layer of gases that surround the earth
2. Why is earth's atmosphere not considered pure air? Because earth's atmosphere is made up of different gases and solid particles besides just oxygen
3. What is the composition of earth's atmosphere? nitrogen, co2, argon, methane , water vapor
4. What gas makes up most of earth's atmosphere? nitrogen 78 percent of our atmosphere
5. Explain why earth's atmosphere is important. keeps it not to hot or not to cold, protects us from the sun's harmful rays, traps in gases that we need to breath (nitrogen, oxygen), stores water for the water cycle.

1. Why does air have pressure and density? air has mass
2. What is air pressure? force is exerted by air
3. What is density? amount of mass in given volume
4. How does air pressure and density change with altitude? air pressure and density decrease with altitude
5. Why does air pressure change with altitude? the higher the altitude the less air pressure

1. What is the source of all energy on earth? sun
2. How does that energy reach earth through space? radiation
3. What happens to that energy after it reaches earth's atmosphere? some sunlight is absorbed or reflected by the atmosphere before it can reach the surface
4. How much of the 100% of energy that reaches the troposphere actually makes it to earth's surface? Why? 50%, because the clouds absorb and reflect some of it.
5. What process traps heat on earth's surface? Why is this important?greenhouse effect, protects us from the sun keeps temp. stable

1. Compare and contrast temperature and thermal energy. temperature is the average amount of energy of motion in the particles of a substance and thermal energy is the total amount of energy of motion in the particles of a substance.
2. What happens to the motion of particles as the temperature of a substance increases? the higher the temperature the faster they are moving.
3. What is heat? It's the thermal energy that is transferred from a hotter object to a cooler one.
4. Describe the three ways that heat is transferred? convection, conduction, radiation
