The topic I chose was poverty amongst humans. Poverty is an example of economic sustainability because the goal is to help those around us who do not have the advantages we do living in today's society.
The Group I would like to focus on throughout the semester are families living in the United States, specifically California.

This topic has developed over the years, however, more recently these last two years. I believe COVID has played a huge role in the increase of poverty. Many people lost their jobs and could not provide for their families. Furthermore, the Market increased tremendously for houses and this made it difficult, especially in California, to afford the costs of living.

My research is important to me because it will help explain to everyone the reasons behind poverty and it will be valid.
Recovery can be a goal for economic sustainability because there are places that offer help and opportunities to get settled and start new. There are programs for those that are in need of jobs, food, shelter, etc. The reason this topic interests me is because I have had engagements with those who are dealing with poverty. I used to volunteer at my local church, Cross Point, where I would go with a group of peers and a leader to the Modesto Bus Station. Many people who are dealing with poverty visit and stay in this area. A particular lady stood out to me, she was in a wheel chair. My group and I approached her and asked how her day was going and if there was anything we could do for her. Furthermore, we offered prayer for her and in that moment, tears flooded. She explained to us how she has no where to go and was terrified. My youth leader offered her a place to stay for the night and was going to start the process of helping her find a home through a program at my church. My experiences have definitely been eye-opening and have made me appreciate more of what I have. This is a great example of economic sustainability because helping one individual can make a difference.

What I hope to learn from my topic is the different programs that are offered in California for those that are living in poverty and ways I can help. I wish to be a missionary one day and this topic can help me grow in my understanding of it.

Practice and Reflect Rhetorical Analysis and information literacy

In Phalash Ghosh's forbes article, "A Year After George Floyd Killing, Fewer Americans Support Black Lives Matter Movement, Poll Finds", it discusses the decrease in popularity towards the Black Lives Movement amongst Americans. The author's purpose is to show how the popularity of the Black Lives Matter movement has decreased compared to when it first started. The rhetorical device that is utilized in the article is logos. In there article, the author states," Police violence is a “serious problem” in the U.S., 69% of respondents said, down from 79% reported right after the death of Floyd last year". This shows that the author is appealing to logic and giving examples on how statistics have been decreasing these past few months. It is very clear that the author is utilizing polls to get his point across towards the reader and show that the support of Americans has decreased. Therefore, the usage of logos was effective because everything that was stated is facts.

Information literacy framework is utilized by the author to inform the reader on how racial injustice is still a big concern and many republicans do not support the Black Lives Matter Movement. The information is part of a continuing conversation about the possibilities of republicans becoming more supportive of the movement and being open-minded. I think change can happen, it will be tough but if we can have support from all sides, the movement will help spread awareness to everyone.

My narrative thesis claims that colleges should be made affordable, in other words, less expensive. My antithesis is that college is not expensive, and anyone can afford it. My counter-narrative is although there are grants, scholarships, and programs offered for students, college can be made affordable by making it run efficiently in regards to the faculty administration. My counter-narrative can help solve the problem I am writing about to show that taking faculty members in to consideration for higher raises and more will provide students with a more efficient cost of college. The quality of education will be at its best.
