"Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, United States, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and developed from roots in blues and ragtime. It then emerged in the form of independent traditional and popular music styles, all linked by the common bonds of African-American and European-American musical parentage with a performance orientation."

"John William Coltrane, also known as "Trane" (September 23, 1926 – July 17, 1967), was an American jazz saxophonist and composer. Working in the bebop and hard bop idioms early in his career, Coltrane helped pioneer the use of modes in jazz and was later at the forefront of free jazz. He led at least fifty recording sessions during his career, and appeared as a sideman on many albums by other musicians, including trumpeter Miles and pianist Thelonious Monk."
Probably my favourite Jazz musician, my favorite jazz album was his collaboration with Duke Ellington and specifically the song "in a sentimental mood" https://youtu.be/sR13ECD71xU
the song captures the raw emotion with coltrane's saxophone providing the lead phrases.

Starting his career with Donald Byrd, he shortly thereafter joined the Miles Davis Quintet where Hancock helped to redefine the role of a jazz rhythm section and was one of the primary architects of the post-bop sound.
