If you were in a similar situation where trust was broken to this extent, consider how you would react. Can you understand Christopher's reaction, and why he isn't quick to forgive his Father? Explain your answer.

I completely understand why he was very reluctant to forgive his father because when I am betrayed, I don't want to talk to that person ever. I understand him for this and empathise with him deeply. I understand how he feels.

After Christopher finishes reading a couple of the letter he says "Then I stopped reading the letter because I felt sick." When he talks about his father lying its very breif and blunt "And Father had lied." Showing that he not only felt sick but betrayed that his father would lie to him. He describes him feeling "I felt giddy. It was like the room was swinging" showing that this news had really shocked him.

At first Christopher couldn't comprehend what his father had said, wondering if his father was joking because 'when people say jokes they don't mean what they say' and Chrisopher doesn't 'understand jokes'. His father continues on, giving Christopher excuses for why, but as Christopher process he realises 'it wasn't a joke and I was really frightened'.

When his father admits to killing wellington, Christopher was in disbelief. He had "wondered if this was a joke" (pg 150) When he realises that his father wasn't joking and was "really frightened" of him. (pg 152) Christopher felt that he needed to leave, and planned to do it in the night as he could "murder [Christopher]." (152) Christopher became so afraid of his father that when he was snoring, Christopher "jumped" and felt like he was "having a heart attack." (pg 153)

He then curls up into a ball, and he can't remember what happened but all he knows is that time had passed when he comes to his senses. He also realises that he has been sick and vomited all over himself and the bed.

He expresses that everything just feels like a movie, that he isn't really there. He also saw his father's words were written out in large words in front of him like "it was on a big advert on the side of a bus". Usually, he sees it "written out like it is being printed on a computer screen."
