Reveal 2: Concept Map by Lily Nhi Pham

Malaria is a severe disease that is transmitted to humans by mosquitos. Malaria is no longer common in high-resource countries such as the United States, but in low-resource countries like Sub-Saharan Africa, malaria is very common and people die every day from it. There must be policy reform to help allocate resources to these countries in order to bring malaria deaths and cases down.

Malaria is preventable and treatable, but is still common in low-resource countries due to lack of resource allocation and failed policies. This article discusses how the malaria problem has been increasing in cases recently as well.

This article discusses the economic and social burden of malaria. It discusses the correlation between malaria and poverty and how malaria also influences population growth and fertility. Countries that have higher poverty rates are more likely to have malaria outbreaks since they do not have the resources to treat and prevent them. We are capable of eradicating Malaria worldwide, but we have to reform public health policy and give what the low-resourced countries need to fight against this disease.

The economic burden of malaria on households

This article goes over the economic burden malaria can put on households financially. Malaria is a fast and easily transmittable disease that can mutate to become resistant to current vaccines that countries may have. For low-resourced countries, they may not have enough to keep up with the new mutated disease and this would lead to outbreaks that are stronger as well. Low-income households would not have the funds to keep up with treating malaria as well.
