Hilario, Dianne Nicole N.
1A18

The Significance of Wedding at Cana to the Sacrament of Marriage:

A wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus was there present together with his mother and disciples. The significance of this event shows how man and woman exchange vows before God and the community that they are united with their bond of love. It is written in the Bible, "That is why a man shall leave his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh". In relation with the sacrament of matrimony, this event is about marriage being a sign which reveals Jesus' divine life and love infused by the power of the Holy Spirit. In the wedding, people ran out of wine and it would be a great humiliation for both the bride and the groom. The turning of water into wine taught us that through this miracle, Jesus revealed his glory. Also, God’s love becomes present to the spouses in their sacred union through both the family and community.

Its Implication to my Own Family:

The implication of the wedding at Cana would be marriage that is made possible by God. He is interested in every aspect of our life and what matters to us, matters to him. In my family, we believe that Jesus has supernatural control over things and nothing is impossible with him. I have also proved this since I can see his guidance and control over my own family and community. Jesus Christ taught the importance of caring for family. My parents often tell me a principle in scripture saying, "Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it." Through my parents, I have learned to follow Jesus and treat him as my own savior. God is important to be at the center of our family because of the spiritual aspect that members can see love, companionship and forgiveness with each other. All the miracles and good happenings in our lives is because of God. The wedding that took place at Cana in Galilee is telling us that if we have full of trust in God, He will bring us unlimited joy in our lives.

Significant points in the Wedding of Cana in relation with marriage and family:

1. Exchange of vows: This is done in covenant with God. As seen in the wedding of cana, Jesus was there during the celebration it depicts that marriage vows are really sacred and committed before the Most High.
2.Mary’s motherhood: When she pays attention to the needs of the newlyweds, noticing when they have run out of wine for their guests.
Prayerfulness: when Mary approaches Jesus with confidence to make known the newlyweds’ problem to Him
3. Mary’s willingness to act: This happened when she turns to the servants and tells them to follow Jesus’ commands.

Implication:

Marriage must be done before the presence of our Lord. This must be treated as sacred and vows are to be uttered wholeheartedly. Building up a family is one of its' ultimate goal. Family is the basic unit of the society and this is where everything begins.

In the wedding at Cana, Mary showed the characteristics of a Mother and how family should be. When they couple runs out of wine, she immediately noticed it which signifies that a mother's concern is really immeasurable. Eveb the smallest details they notice it because they want the best for their family. The wine also depicts another sign, according to Pope the wine is a sign of “happiness, love, and plenty,” and that many families today have also run out of “wine” due to loneliness, unemployment, illness, and other difficulties. I have seen this even in my own family, there's no such thing as perfect family. All of us lack something that only Jesus can satisfy. He is the wine that we all need.

The third significant point is prayerfulness. I first learn how to pray inside the family because my mom taught me how and she introduced me to Jesus. As I grew up, I began to seek more of God. This just proves that the family is a school of prayer where people are reminded that they do not live in isolation but must be concerned about the well-being of loved ones around them.

Lastly, Mary’s willingness to act depicts that the family is a place where people can serve one another in love. I, myself, make sure that I do my best to be there for my family in any situation. They also do the same when I need them, they willingly lend their time and effort despite their busy schedule.

I learned that family contributes a lot for the common good of our society. It plays a very vital role who and what we are today. As pope said: family is the nearest hospital, the first school for the young, the best home for the elderly and a small Church. We are to value our families because they can never be replaced. They are our home and there's no place like home.

The Significance of Wedding at Cana to the Sacrament of Marriage:

The Wedding at Cana signifies the unconditional and endless love between a husband and wife. It also emphasized that the couple should exchange vows witnessed by God. Another relation of this to the Sacrament of Matrimony is the wine itself. The wine symbolizes happiness and love which are essential for every married couple. When the couple ran out of wine, Jesus was there to replenish that wine, our happiness and love. He was able to exert his power and through that, people were able to witness his divinity.

Its Implication to my Family:

The Wedding at Cana is truly one of the most remarkable stories about Jesus. It reflected that Jesus is there for our family whenever we ran out of happiness. Our family is always faced with difficulties and as a way for us to resolve it, we pray together. This implies that Jesus, together with the Holy Spirit, helps families work out their disputes and maintain the love for one another. The story also mentioned about Mary being attentive to the needs of the couple. Similarly, both my parents are attentive to the needs of us, their children, and they will do everything just to keep us happy and satisfied. Overall, the Wedding at Cana taught us to be there for one another and look after each other's needs.

The significance of wedding at cana to the sacrament of marriage:

Based on the video that I just watched, there were several significances shown. First, the miracle at the wedding at Cana, where Mary told her son, Jesus, that they have no wine. However, Jesus’ response was quite in doubt by saying “Woman, how does your concern affect me?”which he stated that his hour had not yet arrived. Nonetheless, Jesus turned the dirty water, which guests used to wash their feet, in to wine. Second, the miracle at Cana served as a “confirmation of the goodness of marriage.” Since the scarcity of wine implies the lack of love between the married couple. And through God’s forgiveness, that lack of true love will change from the waters of sorrow to wine of affection. And Last, the sacrament of marriage was declared for an indissoluble and perpetual bond between the married couple. To relate it from the video, Christ commanded them to take the wine to the steward which is for him to testify the miracle to all guests as well as give the judgment of its quality wine.

Its implication to my own family:

After watching the video, I believe that it has major implications to my own family. I could remember when I was in Junior High School, in 2013 the Zamboanga Siege happened, it was roughly 4-6 months when the war between the moros and our city happened. I could remember several people injured and have lost their lives during that war. All people who had their houses destroyed were all crammed in the Grandstand, where the government provided them relief goods and tents to stay. Although I wasn’t there during that time, since I was already studying here in Manila, my family was there during those bloodshed. There was no single night that I wouldn’t pray for their safety and well being. And as every day passed, my faith grew stronger. More so, I was more than thankful when I knew that they were all safe when the war ended. I realized that the wedding at Cana served as an example that miracles do come true as long as you have patience, faith, and courage.

The Significance of Wedding at Cana to the Sacrament of Marriage:

The Wedding at Cana strikes the importance that Jesus Christ is present, together with His mother and disciples. The Wedding at Cana signifies the miracle as a “confirmation of the goodness of marriage”. The water. Man and woman exchange vows before God and the community, and united by their bond of love. Mary, the mother of Jesus played a significant role in the wedding when she told Jesus that there is no wine. This shown the power of intercessory prayer. We should not keep our petitions for ourselves only, thus we should pray for other people’s intentions. The six stone waterpots also signifies the importance of baptism. The jars that have used war for ceremonial washings or purification. In the waters of baptism, we are cleansed by God’s grace and transformed by his power. Through baptism we become members of the Church. The turning of water into wine was the first miracle Jesus did. This signifies that Christ’s blood has changed into wine and we all drink it with happiness, praising the celebrant or the bride and groom.

Implication to my Family:

The Wedding at Cana is short in the Scripture but full of significant events. Like the gathering of the community at the wedding, my family is gathered to be part of the Church wherein we partake to the Holy Communion of God. My family is gathered for us to help each other and pray for each other, not just becoming selfish. My family helps each other whenever we have difficulties and circumstances in life with no doubts and hesitations. My mother is so compassionate that she thinks more of us rather than herself. In our family, we believe that God is the superior of everything and we have faith in Him. My family also obeys the Commandments of God as well as the Sacraments of God. The Wedding at Cana taught not just our family but everyone, to have a communion and help each other in unfortunate circumstances because we are all brothers and sisters of Christ. We should have compassion and empathy to others.
