6o. Create an annotated playlist related to your issue. Choose a set of six (or so) songs--you could even make the playlist on Spotify--and and write a 50-100 word annotation for each, sharing how each song comments on the issue.

Same Love by Macklemore

"The right-wing conservatives think it's a decision and you can be cured with treatment and religion." This line in the song speaks the truth. So many parents and religious people think you can be cured by going to counseling. Peers comment that you can be changed by having sex the "correct" way. A lot of people believe being gay is a choice. It is not.

"Maybe there's a way out of the cage where you live. Maybe one of these days you can let the light in." Though this song doesn't point towards gay people. I believe it is meant for anyone who is struggling. I think this part of the song is speaking out to someone who is stuck in the closet and is afraid to come out and let people know who they truly are. Stop being afraid, it is okay.

I Kissed a Girl by Katy Perry

"I kissed a girl just to try it, I hope my boyfriend don't mind it." This song makes me laugh, and this part of the song reminds me of when I interviewed some parents and asked them why does gay people bother you? "Because they flaunt it all of the time, they think it is a trend." This was a answer I received. Sadly, there are some people who try it for fun, to find themselves or just because and it supports the frequent quote of "it’s just a phase"

I am What I Am by Gloria Gaynor

"I am what I am... I bang my own drum" I like this song in its entirety. It basically speaking to someone, in this case a gay person that you need to be yourself no matter what. Don't make up excuses for who you are, be happy and do what you love. I think some gay people are afraid to be happy because it is not considered normal to the public, not normal to the outside world.

I'm Coming Out by Diana Ross

"I'm coming out, I want the world to know." No I do not believe this song was meant for gay people but none the less it speaks the truth. The song talks about making it through the coming out part, breaking out of the shell and being who they are supposed to be. I find this very important for those who live in fear. That is not a life to live.

"I gotta find my place... I just wanna be happy"
This is another one of those songs that speaks to anyone who is going through a tough time. This could be for an LGBT person with school, work, friendship, family all of those big areas of life that struggle with acceptance of the person, love, respect, compassion. Sometimes you have to cut out the toxic people in your life to be happy.
