I think this part of the song is speaking out to someone who is stuck in the closet and is afraid to come out and let people know who they truly are. Stop being afraid, it is okay.

I bang my own drum" I like this song in its entirety. It basically speaking to someone, in this case a gay person that you need to be yourself no matter what. Don't make up excuses for who you are, be happy and do what you love. I think some gay people are afraid to be happy because it is not considered normal to the public, not normal to the outside world.
