Globalization encourages the integration of the global economy by way of investments from developed economies into developing countries (Hopkins 2002). Having an understanding of pass influence which impacted on the development of Caribbean society is crucial in moving forward as nations. At its base, globalization is a process that affects human relationships economic, political, social, and cultural between and among countries, regions, and continents. These relationships accelerate, expand, and become more concentrated with globalization. These factors when utilized have proven to be effective as well as ineffective if not properly managed. Based on historical records integration with the global community within the Caribbean context have shown to be one of exploitation and unequal distribution of wealth.

Being integrated into the global community and having an appreciation for various cultural background have been facilitated with the use of technology such as cell phones and the internet. Popular American culture such as dances, choice of clothing and movie preference have shown that, due to the emergence of the global community, the Caribbean region is in fact greatly influenced by cultures outside of the region.
As Caribbean nations attempt to diversify their economies again, can we benefit from making our economies more cohesive within the region or is it more beneficial to be more integrated into the global economy?

Having a diversified sustainable economy is crucial in ensuring that the future generations are able to survive on the gifts of nature such as wild life, minerals and a healthy ecosystem. It would be remiss of Caribbean nations not to seek a stake in the global financial market, as this would enable supplies to dip into a wider market that is the global community, examples of such activities include the ability to shop online as well as receive payments simultaneously. Caribbean nations can increase their gross domestic product through exports of regional minerals such as banana, cocoa and music production such as parang music, which is popular at Christmas time in Trinidad, this can be considered a hybrid of Spanish and Amerindian musical styles. Conversely restricting the integration into the global community would hinder the natural growth of local industries by reducing the amount of available consumers to demand their products.

Will globalization erase our unique identity and negatively impact upon our value and appreciation for our own culture and products to the benefit of more economically powerful nations?

The effects of globalization is far reaching and seeking to avoid it can be challenging. Preserving the unique identity of the region can lead to harsh economic challenges. This can be as a result of the interdependent of the region on the developed world such as the United States and Europe. This interdependence can be dated traced back to colonial times where the Caribbean region was greatly influence by the super powers. The monopolization by these national and battle for the mineral resources found in the region, have proven to be challenging to recover from. The cultivation of these resources refining in the 'mother land' and the requirement of the Caribbean region to purchase these refine products has left a culture of 'foreign taste' even to modern times, where natives of the region would erase our unique identity in favor of foreign products. It is is through these channels that regional integration may face opposition in favor of globalization.

Globalization as any other present day issue may face both positive and negative effects, based on which side of the academic spectrum an individual is viewing from. Globalization as a positive effect on the region's education system, provides opportunities to all from poor to rich, young to old. The opportunity for individuals to take part in the global village through online learning, for instance foundation course, Caribbean Civilization and the integration of persons throughout the Caribbean to have access to the e learning service may have been a far fetch idea in colonial times. This sort of learning would have been exclusively available to the plantation owners and their off spring. Global religious trends and falling in line can benefit the region by allowing followers to reflect on their various religious beliefs without fear of sanctions by the wider global community.

Having an appreciation for regional celebration such as carnival, may face challenges by the growing expansion of the global community and the diversification and dependence of the region on the tourism sector. This is viewed in the gravitation away from traditional mas and calypso to be replaced by what may be viewed as the preferred choice of soca and modern 'jump and wine mas'. The integration and collaboration of foreign performers can be attributed to the region's involvement in the global community and the use of technology such as the cellphones and televisions to stream foreign content.
