The Hearing Aid Protection Act was created to protect consumers from fraud and potential loss. Hearing aids are not cheap, some can be up to thousands of dollars. In a chance of fraud where the hearing aids are broken or not what you purchased, this act was set in place.

The Hearing Aid Protection Act protects individuals because it “gives consumers 30 days to return hearing aids” (DeWine). This way the consumer will have this time to make sure that the hearing aid works correctly. If they have any problems they can return them within the time frame without a problem. Next, “hearing aid receipts to list a consumer’s right to return” (DeWine). This way the consumers will be aware of the act if they have problems with their hearing aids. Another requirement is, “No person shall sell or distribute a hearing aid through the mail to the ultimate consumer unless the person has received a written acknowledgment from the ultimate consumer that the ultimate consumer was advised that an in-person examination by a licensed professional is recommended” (Lawriter). This is one of the other ways the act protects individuals from fraud.
