It would be important to stay with the others to ask for justice and equal rights for everyone, especially because I am black.

First of all to answer these questions I had to do something very difficult: change my point of view. I am one of the white people who all those black people hate. I had to think like one of them, against the people I had always known as good. But it was easier than expected because when I saw what we did I felt disgusted and angry as never before. So to answer these questions I thought about what I feel when someone does something unfair to me. So if I were marching in Selma I would feel angry above all. I would march in the first line. I would destroy my enemies with a stone look, cold and hard as a knife. I would say to Martin Luther King to keep fighting, not to stop at the first difficulty, at the first no from white people. Because if we are fighting against them for freedom then we can't stop by their order. I would fight to sit next to a white man without feeling wrong, I would fight to choose my life, I would fight to have the chance to be happy. Like today I would fight for everyone to be happy and free. Even for those people who come from another country where they could die and find a country where their life, that they have treated with such care, is not worth more than a sack of rubbish.

Elisa Gismani
