After every student was signed in, we would go through the steps one by one. The students would follow the exact same steps I demonstrate at the front. To teach my students (2nd grade) how to access a Chromebook offline I would create a Google Slides doc that walks us step by step and model as we go. If it were an older set of students, I would use the Google extension Screencastify that records your actions on your screen as you perform them while also allowing you to talk about what you are doing and even have your image in the bottom corner of the screen.

Then I would take them through the steps with me monitoring each step as they go through each step to make sure they are doing it correctly. I think I would just walk student through the process of turning on the sync and then they know it is on. It would not turn off unless they turned it off. I would explain to them that the work would not be saved until they are back online but may as well always have it turned on.

A Chromebook offline can take notes with Google Keep, listen to music, read offline webpages, and access apps from the Web store that run offline. I would instruct students step by step using a projector the steps of how to use a Chromebook offline.

This should help them to understand the process by allowing them to try it on their own as I model. If the students have the Chromebook out before the talk and modeling he or she is more likely to be distracted. Next, we will use guided practice in groups since some of the students may understand it quicker than others. The students that understand it can help their classmates. The session will end with the students successfully going through each steps.

I would model how to go into settings in Google drive and change to Offline setting and review with students when it is beneficial to work offline (when internet access is limited or not available).

If I were to teach an "Offline How-To" lesson to 3rd graders, I would first ask my AP for a spare Chromebook. Then I would connect it to my projector and walk students through the steps as shown in the previous tutorial. Students would follow along step-by-step as we do it. Students would be encouraged to keep written or illustrated notes about each step. Then I would create pairs to use one Chromebook between them and repeat the steps collaboratively. After this, I would give students the opportunity to "teach the Teacher" the offline management steps.

I will need to try using a Chromebook before actually being able to know exactly how the offline thing works....I remember when I was in college and saw computers getting internet wirelessly and doing three double takes and not believing it, as the laptops received by the incoming freshman class when I was a junior were equipped with airports to allow wifi, and now they are commonplace....I still cannot wrap my mind around how these computers can save anything into the cloud or check email while offline. This could be useful when students are home or traveling and may not have internet access. They could use it to communicate, work on assignments, etc.
