Replace the Asphalt sidewalks in Belvedere with Concrete ones.

These asphalt sidewalks were supposed to be a temporary fix. This was more than 10 years ago. Today, they are still this way, making it challenging for home owners to shovel the sidewalks in the winter and challenging for strollers/walkers, etc to navigate the sidewalks due to how rough and uneven they are.

Pop Up Community Gardens in Green Spaces in Belvedere Community

To increase access to fresh food and to encourage community relationships and networking opportunities, pop up gardens could be a fantastic way for our residents in apartments/condos who otherwise do not have the space for gardening. It would make sense to have the pop-ups in areas that are not highly treed -- to allow for the sun to hit the gardens, but also for security reasons. The challenge would be to ensure that the gardens are not raided, but the city may have some options to address that challenge.

We have experienced a fair amount of vandalism and theft in the Balwin Communuity. These are primarily crimes of opportunity, and people are taking advantage of these low lit, unsecured areas. If we can create an environment where we minimize these opportunities, we may be able to lower the number of incidents that occur.

Lets brighten up the neighbourhood and recognize the wonderful diversity of cultures. We would love to see the tarmac at Princeton School painted with images that celebrates our neighbourhood!

Beekeeping mentorship project

There are many seniors in the community who have experience with beekeeping. Maybe they can mentor some younger folks to keep a few hives. Great for flowers and veggies in the neighbourhood, and great for intergenerational learning.

Celebrate & Connect: A Year of Fun

This project provides various events and activities throughout the year, each serving different purposes:

- Spring Treasure Hunt: Promoting community exploration through a treasure hunt. We invite community members to add key points of interest, invite business and organizations to share in the fun. Include prizes to local attraction

- Summer Kick-Off: Encouraging residents to participate in local activities. Community-wide BBQ with face painting, petting zoo, and so much more

- Fall Potluck and Sports Party: Fostering a sense of community. Soccer, Football, and Basketball for all families.

- Winter Festival: Creating a festive, warm environment. Skate, toboggan, or participate in a snowman building contest or join us indoors for some hot chocolate and holiday treats, crafts, holiday music dance and a winterscape photobooth

The goal of "Celebrate & Connect: A Year of Community Delight" is to foster social cohesion, cultural and social enrichment, and create a stronger community in Balwin and Belvedere. KARA Family Resource Centre aims to inject some fun and provide activities and events throughout the year.

Monthly tournament

Maybe a different game each month (cribbage? other card games? whatever people in the neighbourhood like to do!). Come a half-hour (hour?) earlier if you need pointers or don't know how to play the game yet. Have food & refreshments, but it is about the game. Use a modified blind-draw approach to help people meet each other and work in teams! (Ask Rob!) Include other soft getting-to-know each other activities to help people meet each other. Maybe everyone who wins a round gets their name put into a hat for a door prize plus other ways to win prizes.

Annual Raspberry Harvest Festival

The seniors at Emmanuel Home love to garden and what they grow each year is impressive! We would love to expand on this, and plan to build a greenhouse, as well as plant raspberry bushes, haskap bushes, and a sensory garden with herbs and other sensory plants. These berries will provide a U-pick patch right in our community! We would love to host an annual harvest event raising money for different community initiatives. Neighbors can come enjoy the event with their kids, pick berries, sell their own garden goods, take part in the largest vegetable competition, etc.! We also would love to build birdhouses at this event and have them hung throughout the yard and in Robert Brett Park. The seniors can share their expertise in gardening, bird watching, growing connections and building relationships.
