Dear Representative Rafael Salamanca Jr,

There are some very big issues going on in NY about covid. There's no need to panic but to stay calm. If you're protecting yourself, we just need to solve these issues going on in our communities by addressing them. I think that one of the biggest issues going on is the fact that people have to wait in line to be tested.

A big problem going on are the lines for getting tested for Covid. In the article called, “New Yorkers wait in line for hours to get COVID-19 tests during surge” it says, “At a city-run testing and vaccination center in Times Square on saturday afternoon, the wait was about three hours.” Another quote from this article is, “But the worker, who would only give his name as Cliff, added there was no line for vaccines.” The first quote shows that people couldn't get tested for the holidays to see their family, the lines in NY were a long wait. The second quote shows that people who wanted to get vaccinated couldn't because there were too many people on the line to get tested. We need to open up more Covid testing centers for the lines don't take so long.

One of the big problems happening is that everything in NYC is slowing down. In a news article called, “Beleaguered by Omicron, New York Operates at Half Speed” it says, “an entire subway line that connects Queens to Manhattan was closed because so many transit workers had fallen ill. Other lines faced delays.” Another quote from this article is, “ The Fire Department, where nearly a third of paramedics were out sick, begged New Yorkers not to call 911 unless it was a real emergency.” The first quote shows that COVID is affecting the train lines, people weren’t able to see their family these holidays because of Covid. The second quote shows people can call 911 when it's a real emergency, first helpers can’t help these people with emergencies cause we keep getting infected. We could help all of this by protecting others and getting vaccinated.

Another very big issue is that the more cases the less people we have to help others. In the article, “NY Trumps Case Record by 9K, Reports Over 85,000 New Positives on New Year's Day” it says, “ The governor began deploying National Guard members to help out at nursing homes and long-term care facilities about a month ago.” Another quote from the article is, “ New York delivered a previously unthinkable level of new COVID cases on Saturday when governor Hochul’s daily report tallied 85,476 positive results in a single day.” The first quote said that the governor had to deploy National Guard members to nursing homes because people either are falling ill or quarantined for protection. The second quote says 85,476 people were infected from Covid, people instead of hanging time with family they spend time in the hospital. It’s time to solve this.

I believe that we could solve this by getting more people to vaccinate. I know some people won’t listen but we need to convince them. I also think you should open up more vaccination and Covid testing centers. Let’s all help out the community, remember we are all in this together we will make it. I PROMISE.

From a concerned student and community member,

Harold

I myself would love to get over covid and live a normal life but it is not easy.To get rid of covid faster I’ll be teaching you what I learned on covid so far.

One problem is people waiting in lines for hours just to get tested and they're frustrated. The text exclaims,“I’m cold and frustrated. ’’We are in such a big city, there should be more options available’’Furthermore’’ New Yorkers begged not to call 911 unless It was a real emergency, after a spate of calls from mildly ill people who were just looking for an ambulance ride to a hospital to get a Covid test’’.This demonstrate how hospitals are being filled with alot of people and they can't take care of everybody including people with medical issues.

Thank you for reading my letter. Essential workers who have dangerous jobs are being put more at risk trying to save people during the pandemic.

On new years day 85,476 people tested positive for covid. As a result of this ambulances are coming from other states which put them at risk. This evidence is important because since they could get covid they can't see their families. Most of this is due to people who aren’t vaccinated and get hospitalized more.

I think the problem could be solved if people got vaccinated. Another way is if people wash their hands, social distance and wore their mask.

Bronx Studio School for Writers and Artists

Jan 6, 2021

Dear Representative Salamanca Jr.

A problem in our community is that lots of people need covid testing.“The document states that a person that was doing the testing got a break, because of this cause it took longer for people to get tested so lines go longer. The document also states that stores were running out of test, in the text it says “that being shutting down early because they had less than 20 test kits left because of this people also go in line in order to get covid tested. Another problem in our community is that the virus omicron has made places filled up and lines full with people. This Document states that “From restaurants to libraries to courts to cruise ships to city agencies, services have been reduced, businesses temporarily closed and events canceled as the entire city struggles to navigate through a sort of Omicron haze.

According to this article one problem is that new yorkers are not getting vaccinated and because of that they are in the hospital. The other problem is that cases continue to grow and COVID hospitalizations have more than doubled since early December.

The government is sending 50 more New York National Guard members to bolster the 50 already there to help with non-medical tasks at health care facilities.

The government is also deploying National Guard members to help out at nursing homes and long-term care facilities about a month ago.

The Governor plans to solve the problems by announcing that students at state universities and the City University of New York will have to get a coronavirus vaccine booster shot.

Government Can help by making all the people that are going to school get vaccinated and if they don't then they won't be allowed in school until they get the vaccine.

My Solution for the first problem would be to get more people to do covid testing.the reason why my solution would solve this problem is because the more people the more people get tested at a time this will solve the problem of full lines.

My solution for the second paragraph would be to close the schools for kids and go remote for some weeks until almost all the people in the school don't feel sick and then make them get a coveted test in order to attend school. This will solve the problem because in those weeks people will get better and to make sure that they really got better they will take a test in order to go back.

From a concerned student and community member,

(Write your name here)

                                     Alexa

The text says “but a worker said they would be shutting down early because they had less than 20 kits left at around 3:45.” Another problem is that there are not enough people to do the testing due to Covid-19. In the text it says “Tests were closed because of staffing shortages caused by the virus.”

(2nd Paragraph) I think that the problem in New York City is how covid is increasing by 85,476. Another problem is that hospitals 8,451 for 100,000 30 people with vaccines get hospitalized. My point is that there are many people in the hospital. And also it was proven that the air was more clean when we quarantined but now we aren’t. So that means the air is going to be more dirty since we are out more often without social distancing. I think we just at least quarantine for 2-3 weeks to make Covid-19 go down.

(Final Paragraph)

The 1st problem is that there are not a lot of tests.

I believe that we need more tests.

My solution will help because more people will see if they have covid so they can quarantine

The 2nd problem is that covid raised by 85,476.

I believe a good solution would be to quarantine and stay home.

Dear elected government representative,

Hello sir, I hope you're feeling well today. I'm sorry to bother you but my name is Demetrius and this letter is about covid. covid is a big thing in the world. covid isn't a good covid thing. It Makes people feel bad.The central idea of my letter is about the negative impact of covid.

The first problem is that people are cold and frustrated. They are frustrated because while they wait for tests they have to be outside in the cold. They are waiting hours for tests and getting sick more for being outside.

Another problem is that people are getting sick. Like it says “an entire subway line that connects Queens to Manhattan was closed because so many transit workers had fallen ill.” which means covid is getting bad. It also says The Fire Department, where nearly a third of paramedics were out sick” because its getting worse.

Another problem is that people have to go outside to get tested. I believe that they should just sell at home tests. That makes it easier for people to come and go. The 2nd problem is that the Paramedics are starting to get sick. I believe Good solution would be that they should send a little bit of them, such as 3 people. Makes it so if they aren’t so bunched up.

From a concerned student and community member,

(Demetrius)
