In the country Opium, there was once Matt, also known Matteo Alacrán, who is the protagonist, is also a clone! The clone of a powerful drug lord, El Patrón, who is the original Matteo Alacrán. In Matt's early life is under the care of Celia who works for the family Alacrán's, one day something happened and was taken to the Alacrán House, where he found he was a clone. From there he begins to live there, but during that time he went under abuse, imprisonment, illness, discrimination, isolation, and even prejudice. Fortunately, he finds allies, people to trust while he lives in that house. With their help, he manages to escape Opium and moves to Aztlán. After El Patrón dies, it's Matt's turn to rule Opium and undo the mess, El Patrón has done.

What did I like/dislike about the book?

I like how the book is in the future because it's in a Dystopian world. I like the idea of creating clones of oneself because I highly doubt it's been done before. I also like how descriptive she was, liken when she was describing the conditions Matt was under when he was imprisoned for 6 months. Also when she described the poppy fields and El Patrón. Nancy Farmer did an excellent job portraying the characters, the plot, and the setting. It felt like I was actually Opium.

What was most interesting, why?

What most interested me was the characters because they were all so different. For example, El Patron, he is 143 years old and he is the only one of his brothers/sisters that lived and grew old. Matt, he is the clone of El Patron and came out of a cow. It's weird, but it interests me. Along with the eejits, they're people/ animals who were brainwashed and were now controlled by the Alacrans

The book is like society today. Why? It's like society today because people have to be at a certain rank to be "popular." Someone has to dress and act a certain way to fit in, if someone fails to meet those standards they become outcasts of the world. Like Matt, he didn't fit those standards because he wasn't an actual human so they dehumanized him and created him an outcast.

2.) Page 108.-" Matt wasn't in any mood to listen. María had insulted him in front of everyone and he intended to make her page."
I choose this quote because I've never seen Matt be so aggressive towards María, this was the first time I've seen that. I thought maybe since he was El Patrón's clone and he is very serious and scary, Matt is starting to truly become him.

I would definitely recommend this book to people who are into futuristically themed genres. Along with Utopian and Dystopian themed genres as well because of imagining living in a world that is controlled by a 140 man. Imagine being cloned, imagine being able to control humans and animals. It's weird, but I find it intriguing reading about what other people might think of the future. It's really interesting and descriptive. I'd say the first page I was already hooked!

I choose this song because it says, " To the edge, I'll race, To the end, I'll make it, All the risk, I'll take." That means that the artist would never give up and would do anything to succeed, whether it'd be good or bad. That's exactly what Matt did, he did anything to be seen as "good" or to be treated like a decent human being, he didn't care if it was good or bad.
