1.) Public Enemy - Fight The Power

The issues expressed in the song are struggles among youth, racism, and lack of social change. The song encourages people to fight back.
The artist expresses their opinions by stating them.

2.) Imagine - John Lennon

This song addresses the issue of social and political problems. The song is very well written and greatly expresses the writers thoughts, though sometimes subtly. For instance, Lennon says this in the song, "You may say I’m a dreamer. But I’m not the only one. I hope someday you’ll join us. And the world will be as one." Look for this in the song and how the writer uses music elements to exemplify this point. Also, this song was written during the Vietnam war.

3.) One - U2

This song was written to be about the whole AIDS epidemic. And that people should accept one another for themselves and not push them away or treat them as outcasts because they are different them them. The opinions of the writer are often stated. The writer states this about the situation, "We’re one, but we’re not the same. We get to Carry each other." This is stated and exemplified through the opinions of the writer. The use of musical elements really enforce this point as well, look out for these as they are very powerful.

The social issues to be addressed in this piece are the issues of the lack of communication between the branches of law enforcement. None of the songs on my playlist have had any influence on my decision on this piece because I have these thoughts and opinions and have had them for a while. The genre that I will be composing in will be modern orchestral music. The instruments that I will be using will be the strings, piano, and types of percussion instruments.

The new version of my composition is more based on conveying emotion and making the listener feel for the issue. The way that the issue is addressed is through a subtle use of police sirens when the song picks up. The sirens are to be added in the future. Here is what it sounds like so far. As far as I know, it is not "Youtube Ready" yet, as it is not finished yet.

Putting The Pieces Together:

After some issues regarding timing, I figured out where to appropriately put the sirens to convey the emotion that I was going for in the last post when I started composing this piece. This further influences the feeling of wanting social change because it makes the listener feel sad and think about the sad circumstances that have happened. On a side note, the sirens make people think of social issues such as police brutality. This is a huge social issue in todays world.

The title of the piece is "Social Justice." I chose the title because it fits the whole theme and the song in a way encompasses that title entirely. I am not sure as to the instrumentation. However, the way all of the instruments flow together to create this piece, is beautiful. And I would very much like mu audiences to take away from this, a sense of or a need or want to help people and find social justice.
