<title>After graduating from Harvard, JFK joined the Navy and was put in command of a patrol torpedo boat in the South Pacific. His boat was rammed by a Japanese vessel; two people died and Kennedy injured his back, but still he hauled a wounded sailor to a nearby island where they were rescued 6 days later. His &quot;extremely heroic efforts&quot; earned him the Navy and Marine Corps Medal and a Purple Heart. </title>

<title>Upon his discharge from the Navy, JFK briefly worked as a Hearst Newspaper reporter, before running for US House of Representatives, representing a working class district in Boston. He served three terms in the House before deciding that his job was too dull compared to his life before, saying &quot;we were just worms in the House, nobody paid attention to us nationally.&quot; In 1952 Kennedy won a tight race against Henry Lodge for a seat in the Senate, and won, serving eight years as a US Senator. </title>
