My mentor teacher is in her thirtieth year of teaching elementary school and in our last meeting, we spoke about how she still kept her big, metal filing cabinets with different examples, projects, assignments, and worksheets that she has separated in categories. She told me how much education has changed throughout her years and specifically, how teachers focus on having a tech savvy classroom. She is retiring in the next couple years so she hadn't felt the need to transition to all files online like the newer teachers have but she spoke to me about how all/if not most of their files being digital. Although she praised the teachers for having everything digital, she stressed the importance of a balance between classroom materials being online and tangible. Students can use websites for additional support for counting and multiplication but tangible resources like manipulatives (number cubes, little bear counters, etc.) are extremely helpful for students to hold in their hands and use. I strive for a tech savvy classroom but I also want a balance between digital and tangible sources.
