We are located in the outskirts if Villanueva de Cañedo. Right there you can find the Castle of Good love. This legend is about the Castle of Good Love or enchanted fortress.

The origin of this castle is not well known but it was built by Juan ll de Castilla in 11th c. Throughout its history it has had different owners. The first ones were the catholic monarchs, later Alfonso de Valencia and Bracamonte and finally Don Alonso de Fonseca.

At present the castle is a hotel, tourists and workers complain because the hotel is enchanted and at night you hear noises on the walls and at night a ghost; the White Lady appears. The story tells that in this castle it took place the forbidden love between Alonso de Fonseca and Maria de Ulloa. Perhaps that is why the specter of the White Lady tries to revive the glorious moments of their love

One day a girl called Diana came and she was very nice. He paid attention to her. He decided that she would be his new conquest.

Diana soon became aware of his intentions so she rejected him again and again. The young man didn’t give up but she didn’t change her mind.

One morning, before All Saints Day, he got a letter from Diana asking him to meet in the “Angustias” hermitage.

Our handsome man was really excited, so though it started raining, he went to the hermitage.

When he arrived, Diana was beautifully dressed and he started kissing her.

It was a dark, thunderous night in Cuenca. A lightning struck and Diana's feet turned into hooves. The boy looked at her and she had become a Devil.

He ran away until he reached the cross that was at the door of the hermitage. He hugged the cross, hoping that God would save him from that beast. the Devil chased him, slapped him on the shoulder and captured him.

When the young man opened his eyes, the Devil was no longer there, but the claw was engraved on the stone cross of the hermitage.
