To make digital literacy interest-driven for students, one really important thing I think is to really know your students. When the teachers know their students enough, they can create lessons that fit and benefit the students' learning.

2. In what ways do students' identities (racial, classed, gendered, multilingual, etc) impact writing instruction?

I think one of the ways that impact writing instruction is how the instruction integral elements of students' identities.

Many times, students do homework for teachers, for their parents, but not for their themselves. The reason is because they are not related the things they have learned, they do not feel it is about themselves. So how to create the instruction that related to the students' themselves is important. Create something that students' have more options to express their own thoughts is one of the ways that can related to themselves. Provide more freedom and space for students to discover instead of have more teacher power in the classroom is important.

What questions surfaced from the reading?

The question that I found from the reading is that it remind me that the digital tool is not about the tool, but it was about how to use the tool to help kids with their learning. Many times, I choose the digital tool to help my own teaching process instead of really think about to benefit students' learning.

What connections did you make to your teaching or learning experiences?

From the reading this week, the author mentioned that the interests that are explored in interest-driven learning represent much more than mere hobbies, instead, they are integral elements of our identities. I feel this words are very true and powerful. As a new teacher who currently is teaching 8th-grades Chinese literacy, I found it is very important to make literacy related to students' personal experiences and their identities. Learning Chinese is not an easy thing, for my students, most of them are American born Chinese, even though their ancestors were Chinese, their have not strong connections to Chines cultures. However, many of them have been travelled to China. So I notice that every time when I related the content to somewhere they have been to or they have experienced, they were excited about it and more talkative. I think this is the power of personal connection or say identities.

How does this reading challenge you?

I think from the reading, the most challenged thing for me is to really know every of my student, and create lessons that can motivate students and drive in their interests. This seems easy but in reality, it needs lots of attention and cares for teachers to put in. How to create the lessons that really drive students' interests in, not because of the ways of the design of the lesson but the interest of the lesson itself, it is very challenge.

I have used Padlet as a responser before in another classes when I study in Hamline University, When I used it I felt it was really friendly to access and use. This is my first time to experience to create my own Padlet and I Enjoy the process to create it as well. I really like it is very straight forward to guide users to create different features we want, and they also provide some templates to show how does every layout looks like and it gives users ideas which one do we want to use. Once we really play Padlet around, I found different layout can stand for different ways of thinking, so people can really organize their own thinking by using different kinds of Padlet. I also really like that Padlet provide privacy part that makes users have options to choose if we want it with a password or not. I think for older level students, it is a great way to use to reinforce their learning if they have technology access condition at home. I will use it with my 8th grade students and I believe it will be really helpful for them to use it with their reading and writing.
