Books are one way to make your classroom multicultural. Multiculturism does not have to do with people from different countries. Multiculturism can be people with disabilities, look different, economic classes and living in different areas. Books give students more information and a new perspective on topic your class. I would use a book that related to my theme that I am teaching that week and relates to that subject (Weinbaum,1999).

During literacy or language arts teachers should pick articles and books about characters of different ethnic back rounds and with different cultures. Students who read about character that look like or similar to them would be more interested reading the materials. This way seems fair and keeps the interest of the students(Weinbaum,1999).

Once a week or more after having your students read an article or a chapter in a book. Have the class get into small groups or big groups by having an open-ended discussion about what your class read. Let them give their thoughts and opinions on the book. Remind them to be respectful of each other by letting others speak and no rude remarks. As the teacher try to lead the discussion by asking questions if no one is talking (Weinbaum,19999).

Bilingual books are books that has 2 languages in it. It usually displayed in one and translated into another language. Having bilingual books in the classroom is a good way for students that do not speak English to learn English and get into reading (Weinbaum, 1999).

From day the first day of school have rules in place and go over them every day. Rules are expectations of the students in the classroom. Rules are in place for safety and order. The teacher must go over the rules and often, so the students know what to do (Flory, 2024).

Teachers need to be open minded and understanding as much as possible. If teachers do not listen to their students their students will think they would not care. Teachers should not assume and be open to learning new ways. For example, giving students an extension to complete an assignment (Flory,2024).

In the begging of the year the teacher should ask their students what they want to learn that related to that subject. The teacher should lesson plan and come up with activities related to what their students want to learn about. For teachers to gain respect and hold their student's attention. They need to teach things that their students are interested in (Flory,2024).

An effective and caring teacher is someone that is confident and does research on what they are teaching and their methods to make sure their accurate. When a teacher has confidence, they are comfortable with what they do (Flory, 2024).

One way to foster an environment is have your class watch a YouTube video in another language. Then after the video have your students guess what going on in the video. Them have your students watch the video with subtitles again to see if they guess right (Flory,2024).

If teachers have students that don't speak English very well. They should put signs with pictures and words in their language, so they know their way around the classroom. Also, the teacher can learn words from their language from the signs around the classroom.

Field trips is a great way to visit a place in the community. Field trips gives students an experience by seeing the environment and doing hands on activities. Field trips is a good way for students to learn because when they experience it they can better understand it (Cartwright,2004).

Parent teacher conferences is a good way to talk to students' families about how they are doing. A teacher should be open minded and talk about positive and things the student needs to work on. The teacher can show some of the students work to the families. The teacher can give the parent suggestion on what the child can work on at home (Cartwright, 2004),

Guest Speakers

A teacher should have guest speakers come to the classroom and talk to the students about what they do. It also a good way to bring someone in especially when you are studying what they are doing. Guest speakers can give students an insight into a topic (Cartwright, 2004).

It a great way to have parents be involved with the class. Some ways is for the teacher to send home a letter for parents to volunteer inside the classroom. Parents can volunteer for a holiday party or do a craft with the kids (Cartwright, 2004).
