They are now learning in a different environment, we should think about how our teaching practices fit into that environment. Children should be exposed to meaningful activities that connect to life experiences to our teaching content. Taking the resources we already have at home and making meaningful learning experiences happen without a screen. Spending meaningful time with parents to slooooow down and learn skills they might not have thought about before. I feel like maybe we should assign time away from screens each day - have the kids and their parents put away the phones, ipads, tvs, whatever else and work on something together for an hour, then write about their experiences and share their results with the class. I hate the feeling of stress and feeling like I am always doing "catch up" work during this distance learning process - I can only imagine that the parents also feel this, too. Now, this video reminds me even more than before the importance of these 4 components in our DL instruction in our classroom. To take advantage of their rich environment and add to it by connecting it to meaningful activities that meet content goals -Teaching point/ Standards, we are still a common core school. DL is great opportunity in education to reevaluate learning in the context of exploration, inquiry and curiosity. I and WE, have been inspired during this time to think outside the instruction of our classroom walls to reach content goals. After watching this video, I will try in the 1F classroom Screen Free Learning. For example, after watching this video where he recommends family reading, I thought how cool would it be for kids to create and organize their own library at home!
