The house is now the classroom. We must now think about ¨resources¨ as those found in the house, not necessarily those found on the internet or what we traditionally use in the classroom. It reminds me of grandparent education. Grandparents have the time and patience to teach unforgettable and valuable life and educational lessons. Less is more. Quality over quantity.

In order to have an effective DL process, we need to think a little deeper in terms of: What ideas our students have, how are they feeling, what interests they have, including them in the planning could make a difference. They are now learning in a different environment, we should think about how our teaching practices fit into that environment. Children should be exposed to meaningful activities that connect to life experiences to our teaching content. They can learn from daily house activities and be able to share that learning with their classmates.

This is a time that is unlike any other our students (and ourselves) have ever experienced. We should capitalize on opportunities for families to be together and to do practical, real life learning experiences with everyday tasks, including daily reading that may or may not be geared towards children.

This reminds me of mindfulness. Taking the resources we already have at home and making meaningful learning experiences happen without a screen. Spending meaningful time with parents to slooooow down and learn skills they might not have thought about before. I feel like maybe we should assign time away from screens each day - have the kids and their parents put away the phones, ipads, tvs, whatever else and work on something together for an hour, then write about their experiences and share their results with the class. I hate the feeling of stress and feeling like I am always doing "catch up" work during this distance learning process - I can only imagine that the parents also feel this, too. Maybe by moving away from the screens we can facilitate meaningful connections for our kids families during this time.

Involving more students in this new experience and leeting them express their feelings about the situation is very important. Knowing the family dynamics and ways of life of our parents, I think it would be difficult to get them more involved; that would need some kind of motivational work for parents so they can really understand the importance and impact on their child's life

In thinking about instruction, we always use in the forefront content, process, product and environment to guide our instruction to reach student individual needs. Now, this video reminds me even more than before the importance of these 4 components in our DL instruction in our classroom. To take advantage of their rich environment and add to it by connecting it to meaningful activities that meet content goals -Teaching point/ Standards, we are still a common core school. DL is great opportunity in education to reevaluate learning in the context of exploration, inquiry and curiosity. I and WE, have been inspired during this time to think outside the instruction of our classroom walls to reach content goals. After watching this video, I will try in the 1F classroom Screen Free Learning. For example, after watching this video where he recommends family reading, I thought how cool would it be for kids to create and organize their own library at home! This activity connects with our reading learning form our TCS Reading Continuum ( Engagement) and adds to their rich environment.
