I think this line is interesting because it highlights how differently Paula experiences things. She finds odd but clever ways to hear without ears. This might reflect how she survives T4 later in the book, that maybe using things she's picked up from being deaf will save her. This is a simile by saying his dreams are wrapped around him like a quilt. The author used like or as during this which caught my eye when I saw this. This line is an example of a simile. I think it's important because it explains that Poor Kurt doesn't have the best life so he thinks about his dreams a lot. This is also important because Poor Kurt doesn't seem like he would want a lot except to be free and not be scared hiding from the Nazis so he wraps his only dreams around him to keep them safe and to remember them.
