Eng III Period 2 | Independent Learning Reflection by Christina Zacharias

Read "She Didn’t Teach. We Had to Learn it Ourselves" by Maryellen Weimer. (1) Name 5 pros about teachers making students figure things out for themselves. (2) Why is it important for students to start becoming independent learners in high school and stop relying so heavily on their teachers (Ex: Relying on teachers to repeat announcements that are already posted to Blackboard, relying on teachers to repeat directions, read to students, and look up definitions for students, etc.)? (3) What do you think college professors will expect from their students in the future? Will they allow disruptions in class and constant late work and irrelevant excuses? (4) Reflect on the job of a teacher. Is a teacher's job to spoon feed students ALL of the subject matter material, OR is to equip students with the skills to learn on their own?

1. They become independent, start to think for themselves, learn how to solve problems, start searching their own answer and work harder to solve the questions.
2. Because in the future they will have to do all the hings by themselves and they have to start learning that if they want to solve a problem they have to work hard and find a solution.
3. A) They will expect a student with own-initiative and with desire to learn new things. A student who can think of great ideas by himself.
B) They will expect a responsible student who does all the work on time. They will not accept late work and all these stuff.
4. A teacher has to teach a student how to solve problems by himself, how to think in a critical way, how t solve problems... A teacher has to teach skills that will help that student in the future.

It is important for student to start becoming independent to get ready for college and their work career. They need to do things on their own and need to know how to do it.
3. College professors will expect their student to do what they need to do without telling them over and over again. They expect you to teach yourself something you do not understand.

1.
- This is a style of teaching that promotes learning.
- It helps the students come up with answers themselves.
- makes them less dependent on teachers.
- helps them to come up with examples to further their understanding of the subject.
- It makes students question their intellectual wherewithal.
2. It is important for students to start becoming independent learners in high school and stop relying so heavily on their teachers because students are becoming young adults and will eventually graduate high school and they must develop this learning style in order to be successful adults.
3. College professors will expect students to be independent and do well in their class. This includes having proper behavior and not creating a distraction for other students, and also turning things on time with no repetitive excuses. Basically, to get the work done.
4. The teacher's job is to teach and equip students with the skills to learn on their own and not to babysit them.

1) 5 pros on teachers making kids figure things out independently. One pro would be that it prepares them from the obstacles ahead like college or a career. It teaches the student how to go around the problem and not to just give up and let it stop them, face the problem head on. It also develops the student to become a better person all around. But the one pro I think is most significant is that the student will be able to learn better since they will be able to learn easier than before.
2) Its important for student to become independent now because they need to be ready for what´s coming up in life. Being prepared is the most successful way to become successful.
3) They will expect hard work and undivided attention while in the class. The won´t care if you don´t do either of those because then your wasting your money and your time.
4) The teachers job isn´t to spoon feed. The teachers job is to work compatibly with the students so they understand and then you work on your own so you can come back with significant questions not ones they have already explained .
