         <description><![CDATA[<div>I couldn't add more than one video, but I wanted to demonstrate Luca's growth in both his true appearance and self-acceptance/self-esteem. Luca and Alberto are sea monsters who turn into humans when on land. In a previous scene, Luca (blue/green sea monster) betrays his friend Alberto (purple sea monster). Alberto reveals to their friend Giulia (red-haired girl) that he is a sea monster, and instead of Luca also sharing his secret, as Alberto thought, Luca screams "sea monster!" and continues to pretend he's human. At this point, he's not comfortable with his true appearance and does not acceptance himself/has low self-esteem. He wants to fit in with the humans. Shortly after that, Giulia discovers Luca is also a sea monster, but accepts him anyway. In the video, Alberto tries to conceal Luca's sea monster identity, even though Luca betrayed him. Luca recognizes Alberto's loyalty and friendship, and in turn, reveals his true identity to save his friend. This experience (fight or flight to save his friend) pushes Luca to reevaluate his priorities and values, accepting himself and his appearance. In the following scene, Luca and Alberto reveal to the town that they are sea monsters, and as the fishermen surround them with harpoons, Luca steps up, yelling, "we're not afraid of you!" In the past, he was very timid and cautious about revealing his true identity because he didn't accept himself, and would not have protected himself and Alberto had he not come to terms with his identity.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Vector 2: Managing Emotions</title>

         <title>Through this vector, students learn the ways in which they establish their identity. Some ways they can do this is by self-acceptance, comfort within body and appearance, and even a sense of self in response to other&#39;s feedback. It leads the path to self-discovery and acceptance. Elsa is a character in the movie Frozen and her magical power is to create and manipulate ice and snow. Unfortunately, Elsa loses control of her powers, creating a massive snowstorm and eternal winter, hurting her community. She runs away and sings about how her fears were always controlled by what others think of her powers. In this song, Elsa decides to let go of that fear and no longer hide her true identity. In this song, she sings, &quot;I don&#39;t care what they are going to say,&quot; lets her hair down, and creates all things around her with ice. She comes into acceptance of her identity with her appearance and powers. Sometimes we hinder who we are for society&#39;s approval, and this video shows how establishing your identity and accepting it leads to self-worth and satisfaction.            -Danilsa  Lendof</title>

When David first moves to Schitt's Creek he is a closed minded person who is stuck in his ways. As the show progresses, he develops into a more open and trusting individual noting the differences he has with others, but using this as a bond rather than a deterrent in forming relationships. He comes from a background of heartache and fake friends and transforms into a man with a loving husband and community who supports him. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>One develops purpose by seeing and understanding beyond life's difficulties, horizons, and limitations. From this video, Pastor Mike Todd (of Transformation Church), reveals how he and his church found "purpose" by having "crazy-faith".<br><br>Moreover, one develops "purpose" through multiple avenues, such as donations (of money, resources, and time), creating and seeking positive environments, and embarking on ventures outside of their comfort levels.<br><br>Nevertheless, finding one's "purpose" is a developmental process, and it takes time to find one's driving force/motivation in/of life.          <title>Physical and Manual Competence</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Overall, the Developing Competence vector involves mastering skills or actions. As individuals receive feedback from others and become more confident in their abilities, they grow even more skilled in the competencies in question. This growth leads to mastering more complex actions.&nbsp;<br><br>While physical and manual competencies may not seem as important in an academic environment, developing the whole person requires paying attention to this family of skills. Physical competencies involve mastering athletic tasks and growing stronger. Manual competencies involve learning to create a product or work of art.&nbsp;<br><br>To illustrate manual competencies, I want to share a scene from Breaking Bad, where the character Jesse Pinkman talks about making a wooden box in his shop class. Content warning: this video contains some off-color language and drug references.&nbsp;<br><br>This scene occurs near the middle of the show. At the start, Jesse is depicted as a less sympathetic character than his partner in drug-making, Walter White. Jesse is shown as a low-level drug dealer who is not as intelligent or morally upright as Walter, who is a gifted chemist and only wants to make meth to pay for his cancer treatments. This scene makes Jesse more sympathetic by describing how he responded to his shop teacher's challenge to actually master woodworking, instead of doing the bare minimum to pass the class.&nbsp;<br><br>Unfortunately, Jesse's addiction prevents him from following this manual competency to productive and fulfilling work. When Jesse is at his lowest point in the course of the show, he daydreams about making his wooden box. While his ultimate fate is uncertain, we hope that he learns to reclaim the joy that he felt from this experience.&nbsp;<br><br>-Mark Walzer</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This vector details how an individual’s identity is partially formed due to competence, emotional maturity, autonomy, positive relationships, as well as the experiences, both positive and negative, that one faces throughout their life. Throughout these experiences, a sense of self emerges where one is more aware of who they are, rather than who they thought they were or who they were told to be. In the movie Thor: Ragnarok, the character Thor faces many battles trying to prevent Ragnarok, a prophesied phenomenon that will destroy his homeland of Asgard. One of the biggest battles Thor faces is against his sister Hela, the Goddess of Death. Hela was imprisoned by their father King Odin many years prior due to trying to overtake Asgard. When Odin passes away, Hela is released from her imprisonment and resumes her plan of ruling Asgard with her armies. In the first fight against Hela, she destroys Thor’s hammer Mjolnir. Without Mjolnir, Thor became very lost in who he was. He has always used Mjolnir in battle, and thought that he stood no chance against Hela without using the hammer in battle. After receiving a vision from Odin, Thor realized that he did not need Mjolnir to beat Hela in battle. Mjolnir was not what made Thor strong- he is the God of Thunder and he had the insurmountable power of thunder inside himself. With this realization, Thor was able to defeat Hela and lead his people in creating a New Asgard, becoming King of the Asgardian people as well. The video below showcases Thor’s realization of who he was, not what he thought he was, which led to the defeat of Hela.&nbsp;-Emily Green</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Developing purpose:&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>This vector is an ultimate challenge at first for students. In this stage, students are not 100% aware of what they want to do or where they want to go in life. For students to be able to find their purpose, Chickering (1993) breaks it down into three important requirements. 1, have students find their aspirations, find their personal interests, and set priorities for interpersonal and family commitments. For students to find their career choices, they first must start by finding their passion, their interests, and challenge themselves in finding other interests that the student might never saw themselves doing or be interested in.&nbsp;<br><br>In the movie, Freedom Writers, we find students who come from a low disadvantage town in Los Angeles. Their new English teacher provides them that hope and the purpose to do better in their lives personally, academically, and professionally.          <title>Mya McQueen Post - Developing Purpose</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Vector developing purpose can be complex for many students. Students may have the energy to be away on a college campus and to experience college life. However, a student may not have the same energy going towards what they want to do or where they want to go in life. Students will not be able to find their purpose overnight. According to Chickering (1993), there are three important requirements for students to develop purpose:</div><ol><li>Students would have to think about their aspirations and vocational goals.</li><li>Students would have to explore their personal interests.</li><li>Students would manage their interpersonal and family commitments.</li></ol><div>College is the atmosphere for students to be pushed out of their comfort zones. There are also many opportunities for students to venture out and find new interests that can guide them to developing purpose.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>To give the background of the movie, The Pursuit of Happyness. The Pursuit of Happyness is a true story based on the life of Chris Gardner, who Will Smith plays. The film follows Chris Gardners as he develops his purpose for his vocational interests, personal interest, and son. Chris Gardner was a homeless man while trying to raise his toddler son. Chris Gardner had a love for stockbroking and wanted to get a job working at a stock firm. Gardner was offered a training position at the stock firm. However, the firm didn't include a salary. Gardner knowing he had to support his son and needed money he questioned taking the opportunity. Also, knowing that he loved stockbroking he took the opportunity. Although Gardner didn't always have the funds, he lived in his purpose by following his vocational goals, personal interests and being committed to raising his son.&nbsp;Pushing through the challenging times and focusing on purpose. Gardner was able to be hired as a stock broker at the firm. </div><div><br></div><div>This movie clip shows the main character Chris Gardner(Will Smith), telling his son Chris Gardner Jr. (Jaden Smith), "Don't ever let anyone tell you can't do something, not even me... You got a dream; you got to protect it." This quote is very relatable to all, especially for college students. It can be easy for students to compare their progression to other students in college and question their purpose or journey. This quote is powerful because it tells all that once a student develops a purpose, it is theirs to protect and push forward to aim.&nbsp;<br><br>Mya McQueen</div>]]></description>

         <title>Vector 3: Moving through autonomy toward independence</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>A show that I've been watching throughout my undergrad years is Grownish. Most of the characters on the show are the same age as me, so their journey through the show resembled mine (just with a lot more drama). The main character of the show, Zoey, is really eager to start college and have everything happen like it does in the movies, only to realize how different college is when she got there. In terms of emotional dependence, she starts off being very dependent on her parents and their money, being very irresponsible at times. Eventually, her dad cuts her off financially, so she must figure out how to continue school by working to make her own money. She also makes a good circle of friends that help to support her. She has to think critically about her life and make important decisions about her career, which shows instrumental independence. Finally, she accepts the importance of interdependence when she finally ended up with the "right" person in the show, who loves and supports her.&nbsp;<br><br>- Priyanka Bharadwaj</div>]]></description>

         <title>Vector 1: Developing Competence</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This vector deals with gaining competency and the way to do is is essentially to gain experience throughout life as well as feedback. As you gain more and more experience and feedback, you will start to strengthen your competency. This is one of those competencies that is more so task driven since you can't develop it without dealing with different situations or tasks.&nbsp;<br><br>Out of the 3 competencies, I want to focus on interpersonal competence which involves acquiring great listening and communication skills. More importantly, it helps establish competence in understanding another person. To showcase this competence I wanted to share a moment from one of my favorite shows, "Violet Evergarden." To give some context to the clip, the premise is about a person who works as a "doll" and the job of a "doll" is to write letters for people. Writing letters involves more than ink on paper, it involves conveying messages, emotions, and intentions. In this particular clip, our main protagonist, Violet, is a doll who is wrote letters requested by a mother for her daughter since she did not have long to live. Since she could not grow old with her daughter she wanted to write letters for in advance to be by her side. Even though the mother couldn't be with her daughter physically, she was there in spirit since Violet helped convey the emotions and messages of the mother and felt the pains of both parties. Without having interpersonal competence these emotions would not be felt in the letter. A single letter filled with emotions is better than a thousand without. That is why interpersonal competence is so important too because we want to be able to understand people, ourselves, and do what we need to do.&nbsp;<br><br>- Mufrad Ahmed</div>]]></description>

         <title>Developing Intellectual Competence</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Of the three competencies you can develop as a student, I chose intellectual competence. This competency focuses on developing one's mind through becoming experts of fields of content and confidence in one's intellect. If you are trying to develop this competency, you would want to grow and develop skills that will help you better to comprehend, analyze, and synthesize thoughts and ideas. This competency also encourages students to look at things from different perspectives. Different point of views will help you interpret and take in differing observations and events. <br>The video clip that I chose to showcase this competency is a scene from the first episode of the BBC's <em>Sherlock</em> series. Sherlock and Watson are driving in a cab when Watson questions Sherlock's credibility and skills as a detective, but Sherlock soon proves that he is deserving of the recognition and treatment he receives. Sherlock tells Watson facts and assumptions about Watson that turn out to be true that Watson did not previously state or make obvious. Sherlock uses his acute observation skills to make accurate and specific observations about Watson. This is an extreme example of the intellectual competency, but it accurately displays someone who is confident in their intellectual abilities and how important it is to be observant.&nbsp;<br>-Sydney Portock</div>]]></description>

         <title>Tangled - Moving Through Autonomy Toward Interdependence</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>"Tangled" is a perfect example of Vector 3: Moving Through Autonomy Toward Interdependence. This scene in particular tackles the themes of emotional dependence and desire for independence. Rapunzel, forcibly dependent on her mother, expresses interest in becoming more autonomous. However, her mother, dependent on Rapunzel for selfish reasons, immediately silences her daughter's voice. It is important to note the language Mother Gothel uses in this dialogue, such as "mother knows best". By affirming her role as mother and supreme influence, Rapunzel is guilted to seek guidance from Mother Gothel and doubt in her own decisions and perspective. Vector 3 also considers the concept of freedom and mobility, in which Rapunzel is both physically and emotionally confined to a tower away from exposure to other perspectives. Overall, the journey of Rapunzel transitions from immobility and codependence to freedom and an understanding of interdependence within her life. - Nelgie Lauredent</div>]]></description>

         <title>Developing Mature Interpersonal relationships</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I chose this clip, which is a compilation of a character from She-Ra, Catra, showing vulnerability and sharing her emotions with the people around her. I really like this example because in the first four seasons of the show, Catra is the main antagonist, she has a vendetta against the protagonist for betraying her trust and because of this shuts everyone out, feels incredibly isolated, and lashes out against them. She spends most of her time in the early seasons not trying to understand the protagonists group and keeps everyone around her at arms length because she believes she doesn't need other people to succeed in her goals. The clip above shows her beginning to open up to people more as she realizes that the group she's been fighting against really isn't so different from her, and through open communication and trying to trust and relate to them all, she begins to realize that she has a place in the group after all. I really like this arc of the show because I think many people can relate to this, it's hard to open up to people and form trusting relationships with people you don't know very well, but it's a very important part of student development, and it leads to a more genuine and holistic student experience. In my opinion the easiest way to have a bad experience in college or anywhere is to not have people you can rely on, so being able to put yourself out there and develop interpersonal relationships is essential. I think this clip does a good job of showing how it may be difficult to adjust to meeting new people and forming new relationships but it's essential for growth.<br>-Callie Dey</div>]]></description>

In the film, Rene learns how to control and appropriately express her feelings. In the beginning of the film Rene is angry and jealous of her sister. Her actions were a direct result of a lack of control over her emotions. By the end of the film, Rene learns from first hand experience how these uncontrolled emotions could have a negative impact on her and the people that she cares about.          <title>The vector this clip is representing is developing integrity, but more specifically, the stage of humanizing values. This vector is about going beyond a belief system that may only involve one’s self interest and unsureness of beliefs. It is related to establishing identity because it involves being more clear about belief systems. Humanizing values in particular is the stage where one is able to go beyond self interest and include the world and its rules into their perspective. </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This clip is meant to show Zuko’s huge transformation. Zuko throughout the series is seen as only caring about himself and his mission for his father to be proud of him and to accept him back into the fire nation. In this clip, he shows he finally reached the point where instead of only caring about his values, he’s realized his perspective is narrow and of self interest. He finally cares about the rest of the world because he knows now that the fire nation is not this perfect power holder, but instead is hurting the world. Zuko has been conflicted about these values for a while, but finally recognized that his perspective of the world has to go beyond just thinking about himself, but society around him.<br>--Lesley Martinez </div>]]></description>

         <title>Developing Mature Relationships - Mean Girls</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The "Developing Mature Interpersonal Relationships" Vector, as described by Chickering, involves the shift that occurs as students develop a richer understanding of the people around them, which provides a better springboard from which students can engage in intimate and more genuine relationships. As students are increasingly able to view their peers holistically (rather than through prejudgements, assumptions or stereotypes) there is an increased sense of empathy. This increase in empathy then makes for an easier time engaging in closer, more intimate relationships.<br>In this scene from Mean Girls, the students&nbsp; commiserate over their mutual bullying by the film's main antagonist. In turn, the students all realize that they themselves have bullied others based off of unture statements and stereotypes. The students then (in a comical fashion) read out apologies for the mean things they have said. Recognizing one's similiarites and differences from others, and taking action to rectify past mistakes from a place of empathy is a sign of developing mature interpersonal relationships.<br>- Colin Marsh</div>]]></description>
