I have been raised and brought up in a Christian home and have attended church weekly since I was a week old. Faith was always a huge factor in my family, from family devotions every night, attending GEMS at church, and going on mission trips, my parents were sure to put faith first, always. We didn't do anything on Sundays besides go to church, it was our day of rest and our day to worship without any distractions getting in the way. This is still the case today. No homework on Sundays, no TV, no screen time. Time with the Lord comes first, and the things listed above got in the way of that. To some, that may sound strict. To me, it's putting the Lord first. It's praying and believing even what we cannot see. It's having hope that things work together for those who love God (Romans 8:28).

Family and marriage importance was implemented early on in my life. For as long as I can remember, I was taught that marriage is a resemblance of Christ and the church, it is to be between one man and one woman, and that children are to obey their parents. Fathers are the head of the household and are to lead their family, just like how Christ is head of the church. The wife is supposed to submit to her husband willingly, and the children are to obey willingly and the first time when asked. Marriage and families are for life, they are not just to be thrown around and used flippantly. Family was the second most important thing, after faith and hope in Jesus Christ.

With my mom being a teacher, we were taught that grades and academic performance are not what defines us as people. My brother did poorly in school, while my other brother and I did well. While he got C's and D's and my other brother and I got A's and B's, my parents were equally proud of us. We were not defined by our academic abilities and we weren't punished for "getting a bad grade". Obviously we were pushed to do our best at all times, but our best should never have been achieved at an unhealthy level (i.e: pulling all-nighters to study, cramming, and procrastinating). If we didn't do well on an assignment or test, we went back and found out what we did wrong and learned how to fix it. We were not valued based off our academic achievements.

I have some mad FOMO, and I hate when I see my friends out doing fun things that I couldn't come to because I had to work or had previous plans. I really really really value quality time, and I hate when my calendar has empty boxes on it, because it means I have nothing to do, and then I will be bored while I could be having fun with friends or family. I try to fill my days with family or friends outside of the classroom and work.

Quite honestly, I wish I didn't value affirmation as much as I do. But based off of my need to people-please and my inability to say no, I pretty much need affirmation to function (which is really bad, I know). If my friends don't like the way I did my hair, I'll literally redo it just because they didn't like it, even if I did.

I really really value an honest person. If I find out that someone has lied or faked something to me, I am not a happy camper. I would much rather them communicate the truth with me rather than lie to me to make their story sound better or to save me from being hurt. I would much rather be told the truth and have it be hurtful then have them lie to me just to spare my feelings.

God values life and that is obvious in scripture. He gave Adam and Eve life in Genesis and after their walk with Him was ruined by sin, He promised to send His Son to live on this earth. By Jesus' life on earth, death, and resurrection, we are given eternal life with God in heaven, through Jesus' righteousness. Without this, we are dead in sin and not deserving of eternal life with Jesus Christ.
Another scripture that shows God's value for life is found in Matthew 19:14, when Jesus says "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these." God values the lives of little ones and wants them to live their lives for Him.

Relationships

One thing that God really values that is found all over scripture is relationships. This includes relationships with our peers, colleagues, family, friends, and with God Himself. One story that really stands out to me that shows how much Jesus values relationships is in the one of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus. Jesus had a friendship with Lazarus and his sisters. When Lazarus died, Jesus went to his home to comfort the sisters and speak with each one. Jesus was also deeply affected by Lazarus' death that He wept (John 11:35). He had lost a dear friend. He was worried about Mary and Martha's relationship as they were not agreeing with one another and the way they were acting.
Another story in Scripture that stands out to me about relationships was when Jesus was on the cross. He instructed John, his disciple, to take care of His mother after he had died. "Woman, behold your son!" (John 19:26-27). Jesus entrusted John with the care of His mother. Jesus loved and cared for His mother, and He needed someone to care for her while He was not on earth. He also valued His relationship with John enough to trust him in the care of His mother.

"If it is possible, live peaceably with all" Romans 12:18. God really values peace. He isn't a fan of conflict, and much prefers us all live in unity with one another. When people were arguing or having a conflict, Jesus would urge them to resolve that conflict and live peaceably with each other. His apostles followed this, especially Paul, when he wrote in Philippians 4:2-3, " I entreat Euodia and I entreat Syntyche to agree in the Lord." It appears that these two women were in a conflict with one another, and Paul is entreating them to agree.

As a teacher, I will play many roles in my students' lives. Part of my job is implementing moral values in their lives, when appropriate. If I am called to teach in a Christian school, then obviously faith will be implemented. If I end up in a public institution, faith can be implanted in different ways. As I won't be allowed to pray in front of my students, I can still pray for them throughout the day in my head and show them the love of Christ. I can spend quality time with them and have one-on-ones with them and get to know them better. This also goes along with relationship values. I can value my individual relationships with each of my students and my coworkers.
