I ask students to answer a small number of content-based questions for the last 5 minutes of the lesson. Most of these exit tickets are in Google Forms, so it's easy to review the students' answers at any time. Depending on the type of question, Google Forms will even compile the students' answers for you. Interactive modeling is helpful when I want students to focus on a certain process or technique. We sing solfege with hand signs; students identify notes on the staff and show with hand signs. We play listening games to assess aural identification of rhythmic/melodic patterns. Students self-evaluate performances/check for understanding with a quick thumbs up/down/middle scale. It helps me help students and see what they understand and don't understand about what we are working on. It is a bit more time consuming to check everyone's work, but it's well worth it. For math I have them write their own equations with their own drawings to see who is understanding the concept. I then record students who are struggling with the certain concept and go back and help them.
