As I begin reading Wonder, I stayed on track and understood the book this far. As I continue to read Wonder, I notice a re-occurring question that comes to mind. I repeatedly ask myself, "why are these kids being so rude to Auggie?" Bullying is very rude and disrespectful and I find how the other students treat Auggie is completely unacceptable. This leads me to ask myself why they are treating them this way. What's motivating them? I found this on page 61.

As I continue to read further into my book, I started to notice that I was making connections as I was reading. The first connection I made was a text to text connection. I began to notice that Wonder reminded me a lot of a book called The Fault in Our Stars. I made this connection because in The Fault in Our Stars, the main character has a characteristic about them that they can not change. In Wonder, Auggie has a disease causing his face to be deformed while in The Fault in Our Stars, the main character has cancer. The next connection I made while reading this book was a text to self connection. Throughout reading this book, I noticed that I began to make a connection from the book to my own life. Very often around me I see people getting bullied because of how they look or how they act just like how Auggie is being treated in Wonder. The final connection I made while reading this book was a text to world connection. During my reading, I came to the realization that I began to connect the events in this book to the world. Auggie has a lifechanging disease that affects how his face looks and he can not change it. In the world, there are many people who have diseases just like Auggie. Maybe they aren't the same exact thing but most people can not get rid of the disease that they have. I found my observations on pages 24, 85, and 73.

Throughout my reading of Wonder, I begin to find that I have been inferring what will happen towards the end of the book. I notice that given what I know so far ( Auggie has a deformed face and is going to try going to a real school) I begin to infer that Auggie will get bullied for how he looks and finding friends will be a challenge for him. As I continue to read further into the book, I find this to be true. Although Auggie makes a few friends, it is a struggle to make more than two or three main friends. I found this information on page 57.

As I proceed to read Wonder, I slowly start to realize that certain passages from the book help me to visualize what is happening in more depth. One passage that stuck out to me is on page 18. The passage states "...I feel ordinary inside. But I know ordinary kids don't make other ordinary kids run away screaming on playgrounds." This passage helps me to visualize what Auggie's face looks like. It can help me understand that Auggie's face is so morphed that it is scaring kids away leading me to the assumption that his face is much worse than I had originally thought.

Wonder is a very interesting book that I found to be very inspiring. While reading I began to notice a few main events that stuck out to me. Towards the beginning of the book, we learn that Auggie has a morphed face and is a making the big decision to go to a regular school for his first time ever. Near the middle of the book, Jack (Auggie's friend) begins to notice Auggie is being treated poorly so he gets in a fight with one of the bullies. Near the end of the book, the children of Auggie's school begin to notice that Auggie is actually a really fun person and he makes many friends. I found most of my information on page 105.

Sticky six: Main character changes throughout the book

Throughout the book, I began to notice that the main character (Auggie Pullman) changes a lot throughout the course of the story. Towards the start of the book, Auggie is very nervous. He is scared about what kids will think of him and his face. He is very self conscious about how he looks and is scared of being judged. Mid-way through the book, Auggie hears his good friend Jack talking bad about him behind his back and this makes him very mad. As a result, Auggie is very angry towards Jack and dose not talk to him until he apologizes. After Jack apologizes, things go back to normal and they are friends again. Near the summary of the book, a new character is introduced named Summer. Summer is one of the "popular girls" and is told not to talk to Auggie. After a while, Summer realizes Auggie really isn't that bad and they become good friends. Due to Summer's popularity, everyone begins to like Auggie. This results in Auggie becoming less nervous about how people think about him and how his face looks. Overall, throughout the course of the book, Auggie becomes a lot more social and he becomes less worried about what people say about him. Auggie was introduced to Summer on page 168.

As I look back at my reading of the book Wonder, I notice that throughout the book a certain theme is being developed. The theme is kindness. Towards the middle of the book, I notice that as Summer becomes Auggie's friend, she is very kind to him. I also noticed the theme of kindness is developed when Jack and Auggie are done fighting as they go back to being friends. Another reason that I chose the theme of kindness is near the end of the book. As people begin to get to know Auggie, other than just his face, they notice that he is really nice and begin to be nicer (more kind) to him. I collected my information from page 309.

Sticky Eight: Plot Development and Events

Once I finished reading Wonder, I looked back and paid more attention to the development of the plot and the main events that took place through the book. One of the main key points I noticed regarding plot development was at the beginning of the book. Wonder starts off by Auggie stating that he is not a normal kid. Although he does not look normal he does normal things like everyone else. This gives us a good idea of how Auggie's looks are judged by other people and that they infer that just because he has a different face he acts unusual. As the book continues to play out this proves to be true and Auggie is a victim of bullying from his peers due to the way he looks. As I continue to think back to my reading I begin to notice a few main events that are very important and key events. The first important event I noticed was Auggie going to his first day of real school. This is a big step as he has been home schooled his entire life. The next important event that contributes to Wonder is when Jack gets into a fight with one of the kids that was bullying Auggie. This shows that even though Auggie was mad at Jack, Jack still stuck up for Auggie and had his back. The final event that I found to be important is near the end of the book. This event takes place when Auggie begins making a lot of friends and everyone begins to notice that Auggie is a really nice and loyal person and it isn't all about how he looks. I found my information on page 200.

As I continue to look back at my book, I notice a certain style of writing the Author has. The author sticks to a persuasive writing style. Throughout the book, the author continues to show time and time again the lesson to treat others the way you want to be treated. The author starts the book with almost everyone in the school neglecting Auggie and treating him poorly. As the book comes to a summary, the children of the school begin to notice that Auggie is really cool and they should have treated him how they wanted to be treated when they first met him oppose to waiting till the end of the year. I gained my knowledge from reading throughout the book and understanding the autho'rs style.

After finishing Wonder, I began to notice I developed and opinion regarding what I thought about the book. I began to notice that I enjoyed the authors way of creating good imagery. Throughout the book, the author uses very descriptive details to explain how certain objects feel or look. Another topic a formed an opinion on was how the author keeps the readers engaged. The author keeps readers engaged by introducing problems causing the main character to come upon challenges leading to a diversion and making the reader question how the character will get out of the given situation. I processed my knowledge from developing an opinion on the authors writing.
