- A UN Study examined how many people live in poverty on a global basis, which displayed how 700 million people live in extreme poverty;
- This study indirectly shows how humans are innately cruel as to allow fellow human beings to live in such horrible conditions;
- An Inspector Calls, Immanuel Kant: Radical Evil, and A Victim of Human Cruelty all display similar theses of human cruelty;
- Analyzing such works reveal an astonishing affiliation with Global Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions

- Mr. Birling acts in a cruel way by firing her when she demanded a raise in times of financial hardship;
- They “wanted the rates raised so that they could average about twenty-five shillings a week” (Priestley 14);
- The juxtaposition between Sheila's socialist beliefs and Mr. Birling's capitalist beliefs furthers the audience's dislike for Mr. Birling, making the audience agree with Sheila more rather than Mr. Birling;
- Priestley uses dramatic irony to create a sense of distance and antagonism between the audience and him: “Just because . . . a few German officers have too much to drink and begin talking nonsense, you’ll hear some people say that war’s inevitable” (Priestley 6);
- If privileged people such as Mr. Birling all started to care more for their employees rather than their own wealth, then “promot[ing] peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development” would not be necessary

- Explains how and why Kant though humanity had an innate desire to be cruel;
- Kant thought that all humans possess three natural dispositions: animality, personality, and humanity;
- For humans to be able to exhibit cruel behaviour (as they clearly are) one of these dispositions must be corrupt
- Since animality and personality are pure in nature, humanity is the only "remaining basic predisposition susceptible to corruption” (Hanson);
- To display his argument, Hanson lays out a series of facts to build his thesis off of;
- “The failure of human moral agents to observe the moral law is symptomatic of a character . . . that has been corrupted by an innate propensity to evil” (Hanson)
- If humanity was not innately cruel, a society would be just naturally, so providing proper justice for all in Goal 16 would not be necessary

- All of humanity carries a natural inclination to be cruel, which must prove that the fundamentals upon which human nature is built are inherently cruel;
- An Inspector Calls displays how most people cruelly prioritize their wealthy over the health of others;
- Immanuel Kant: Radical Evil explains how Kant believed that, as humans, being cruel is inescapable;
- A Victim of Human Cruelty demonstrates how all humans prey on those weaker than them;
- We must start to recognize this cruelty in order to prevent it from continuing;
- We must also start focusing on creating peace, justice, and strong institutions;
- As a global community attempting to take a next step, we should try to highlight specific parts of human nature that exhibit human cruelty as a way to prevent it from controlling us
