Although southern states mainly were composed of slaves, some people in northern states owned slaves too. The population of slaves in america was around 20% in 1776,which is a big portion of the colonies' entire population. The slaves in the north were not used the same as the ones in the south. Southern slave owners used their slaves for agricultural labor, where as Northern slave owner used their slaves for industrial labor like craftsmen, sailors, and dock workers. At last, the northern colonies passed laws that put an end to slavery and eventually caused it to become extinct.

She sexually harassed by her enslaver on their plantation in North Carolina. Harriet Jacobs wrote an autobiography and other notable narratives including "Fear of Insurrection". When she was young, her mother died and she moved in to live with her mother's mistress. She went on to teach the young Harriet how to read, write and even sew. Later in life she was involved in the abolition movement before the civil war. After the war she worked to help to improve living conditions for newly-freed slaves.

He was taught to read and write at a young age. When he became  old enough to decided to be a preacher or as he told other slaves, god sent him there to lead them to freedom  and safety. Turners plan was to take over the travis family house and get all there weapons and supplies. When Turner gave the greenlight they stormed the house and killed the whole family. He survived about 6 weeks before he was caught and hung along with over 60 other slaves, this halted the chance of slaves being set free and created more hated towards freedmen.

The poor whites took their places in the ranks in every-day dress, some without shoes, some without hats." The slaves didn't like this because they would be punished by the soldiers or the whites.

Scourge: a whip used for punishment.; It was a grand opportunity for the low whites, who had no negroes of their own to scourge.

Subservience: willingness to obey others unquestioningly.; They exulted in such a chance to exercise a little brief authority, and show their subservience to the slaveholders; not reflecting that the power which trampled on the colored people also kept themselves in poverty, ignorance, and moral degradation.

Consternation: feelings of anxiety or dismay, typically at something unexpected.; The consternation was universal.

Malediction: A word or phrase said with the intention bringing evil to someone.;As they passed out of the gate, the captain turned back, and pronounced a malediction on the house.

Wrath: extreme anger.;The wrath of the slaveholders was somewhat appeased by the capture of Nat Turner.

The bible verse was ironic to the passage because in the passage the whites owned slaves and invaded their homes.

"This officer was Mr. Litch, the wealthy slaveholder whom I mentioned, in the account of neighboring planters, as being notorious for his cruelty. He felt above soiling his hands with the search. He merely gave orders; and, if a bit of writing was discovered, it was carried to him by his ignorant followers, who were unable to read." Some of these misconceptions include slavery only being in the south, the labor slaves had to do, and population in states with slaves. In many southern states, slaves made up a major portion of the population.
