I think these are really beneficial to the classroom because not only does it assess students and what they understand about the material, but your teaching as well and what you can do to improve. I also like that you can choose which grade level test to give to your students, so that they will not start off on a frustration level. Then you can really assess if they are growing over time and finally reaching grade level or beyond.

1) I have not used EasyCBM.

2/3) EasyCBM seems like a helpful assessment. I like that it gives student data as well as recommendations and feedback on teaching. I think this assessment benefits students and teachers so I would be interested to try it! I also love the multiple passages, accommodations, and Spanish version because it keeps the exam accessible. Since it aligns with the curriculum, I think it can be really helpful for getting info on students and finding targets for instruction or reteaching.

Not yet

I love that it measures reading and math skills!! That is really cool.

I like that feedback is given to the teacher so they can modify practices, but in terms of the curriculum-based measurements, I get stuck thinking about teaching based on a curriculum compared to learning to cultivate knowledge and meaning. Measuring student progress and skills based on a standardized scale can limit understanding of a student's overall progress and development. I think this assessment would be great in terms of informing instruction since it directly aligns with the teaching curriculum, but I also think it is important to consider what learning and growing is going on outside of that curriculum.

I have not used EasyCBM assessments with students. Thank you for sharing the examples of the reading and math assessments. I was tempted to take the 'Word Reading' assessment myself to see how quickly I could read the 176 words listed. You can definitely tell the assessment is benchmark and monitoring. The fluency passage screams "EOG sample". I like the added Spanish literacy measures and translations for math. I would be interested in using this assessment, as it is aligned to Common Core.

I have never used or heard of EasyCBM, however, many aspects of the assessment seem appealing. I like that the test allows for accommodations for students who are struggling readers (the comprehension portion of the test being read aloud.) I also really appreciate that they test is offered in Spanish as well as English. Additionally, the fact that math skills are also assessed is interesting. A student who struggles in reading would potentially have the opportunity to show their capabilities in another subject in which they are more competent.

I have used EasyCBM before during my college experience I feel that it is a good tool when trying to determine a students abilities when you are unsure of a starting point, however, EasyCBM do not have specific questions based on one area of a subject. Rather it is seperated by units in a sense, at least with the ones I have seen and/or used on the past. Overall, I do feel like the EasyCBM assessment is a great tool in the classroom for determining a students abilities within their academics.

I have never used EasyCBM with students, but have used online assessment tools such as iReady. I enjoyed using iReady as a student, as it provided game-based interventions as a response to areas of weakness found on the assessment, but I do worry that basing instruction off of one data point may be a bit weak. I do like that accommodation is possible on this assessment, as it was one of my biggest concerns that there were not any accommodations allowed on the GORT-5. Another concern that I have about this assessment is how costly it can be. On a teacher's salary, unless the district is footing the bill, it can be very hard for me to justify spending my money on assessment tools. I like tools that are curriculum based, as many of the state assessments that are used at the higher grades are also curriculum based.

I also like how it helps teachers in identifying the students' needs and also the ways that teachers can support students' needs through their instruction.

I think the EasyCBM would be something I would want to try in my future classroom. I wonder if it could be helpful for beginning teachers or teachers who are struggling to determine their next steps with a whole class who is struggling within a certain context area. I also wonder how the kids interactions with it impact their learning and abilities as they grow academically.

I have never used EasyCBM and I also have never heard of it until this class! I believe that one of the pros of this assessment is that it allows for accommodation for struggling readers. Struggling readers can have the assessment read aloud to them. I also like how the assessment can be translated into Spanish for Spanish-speaking students. I found it very interesting that the assessment assesses both reading AND math skills! I think that the assessment being curriculum-based could be really beneficial in terms of informing your instructional practices in the classroom.

I am currently using EasyCBM, specifically the passage reading fluency sheets right now for five of my second graders. I love how "easy" the teacher copy sheets are to follow and gather an overall score (CWPM). I do this three times a week with the same passage for a small group of my students. As far as the other assessments it offers, I have no experience using those. I can't think of anything I would change given how simple it is to use.

Most of the teachers that have used this assessment have used it for math instead of reading. I would assume it is because our district already has in place mClass Dibels and iReady Reading diagnostics.
