When asking a question to the whole class, it was usually the same two hands that went up every time. A mentor introduced me to pear deck, which has the option to insert questions into slide decks. They followed along live with me and the students have the option to either type an answer in or draw the answer out. I felt this was a sure way for me to hear from the majority of the class instead of hearing the usual voices.

As a kindergarten teacher, I use videos and images to support differentiation. For example, when learning a new phoneme, I will use fun videos to practice that phoneme. I will also display images of what their mouth should look like when using that phoneme.

The PK Guidelines said: PK4.II.D.3 Child consistently understands (receptive) and uses (expressive) new vocabulary acquired through books, conversations, and play.

I talked about the different parts of the plant, seed, root, stem, flower. I made sure to bring in real world examples like broccoli and celery. I did not provide opportunity for student evaluation. Looking back at it now, I can think about bringing their background knowledge into the classroom. I could have asked for them to bring in a fruit or vegetable that they commonly eat or have at home and use the target vocabulary that I was teaching.
