Dust storms were called black blizzards, and they buried farmhouses, fences, and even trees. People had to even cover their doors and windows with shutters to protect the items from damage, but that didn’t work. These storms were widespread, and one even hit from Oklahoma ,to Albany, N.Y. and out into the Atlantic Ocean. A third of the Great Plains was blown away from this storm. The disaster was caused by years of overgrazing by cattle, and by the farmers as well.
