Takahia is the when you stomp your foot on the ground in a consistent pasted keeping timing of the rhythm. Takahia is suppose to represent the heart beat of Papatuanuku. Wahine used there heal and the Tane use there foot to takahia. In Te Tai Tokerau they use a Takahia move called the Pipi shuffle, the reason why they call it the Pipi shuffle is because they’ve taken the action from collecting Pipis from in the sand, This Pipi shuffle is used by our wahne.

Pukana are an important source in kapa haka. A pukana helps to show emotion in a song or haka during the performance. For wahine, pukana involves opening their eyes wide and jutting out their chin, while for tane, it means widening their eyes and stretching out their tongue or grinding their teeth. These facial expressions may be intimidating to some, but they are not a sign of aggression instead, they may show strong emotion.

Formation is used in Kapa Haka. They use formations to recreate shapes on stage to help describe the story that the performers are trying to tell. Using formations makes the Kapa Haka performance more interesting and amazing to watch. The best way to describe different formation is Te Whare Tu Taua. The shapes that a war party would use to infiltrate opposing war party. making sure the are symmetrical balanced.
