The lack of independence may mean that the patients are unable to fill out the questionnaire themself. Also as they may find it difficult to fill out the form anyway as they may be generally confused and find concentrating on the form very hard.

It should be a short and very easy to understand scale. meaning there should be clear instructions for what the participant is expected to do. Also if possible the carer could give the scale to the participant in order to help the participant.

Consider test-retest reliability as individuals with dementia may change from day to day depending on their severity

Scales should consider who is administering it as difference in results can be a result of if the person administering it has dementia, is a caregiver, doctor etc.

Moreover, it is important to consider self-report scales and the level of dementia severity of the patient

Not having downward lines in the scales to make it easier to read from left to right. The downward lines can cause a visual separation between the response options causing confusion.

Scale shouldn't be long winded in order to keep patient engaged with it.

Not using common psychological phrase like 'sense of self' as while these are very common to psychologist they can be very confusing for older adults.
