The pictures tie to the savory without giving it away 100%, this helps students read without relying on pictures. This book would be good for prek-kindergarten, but would be too easy for 1st grade.

The words in this book are short and easy to pronounce. The sentences in this book are barely sentences, as they are only 3-4 words each. I noticed that the words are very self-explanatory and repeat often. The pictures in this book explain exactly what’s happening and explain the story more than the words do. This is a very beginner book, I would say it is pre-k or early kindergarten.

In this book, there’s more dialogue and onomatopoeia, as it says things like “Zoom and zip”. There is about 3 sentences on each page and each sentence is pretty short. There are no compound sentences. There are repeated words and phrases like , “ Vroom vroom. I want to zoom.” This is a common sentence for this book. This story is not complex and has an easily identifiable beginning, middle and end. This is a reading level 1 but I think would be good for Kindergarteners or lower level 1st graders.

The book was mostly dialogue, as I would describe this as a lower level graphic novel. The book had a lot of made up compound words, as well as words that rhymed. There was only one or two sentences on each page as some of it was describing what was going on and the rest was dialogue. The words are all in theme with the book being about fairies. They weren’t predictable as they were made up words but didn’t feel out of place. The story isn’t super complicated but is a longer book with smaller print. This would need to be a commitment for a younger student. It is reading level 1 and is for Kindergarteners- 2nd graders.

This book has compound words as well as descriptive adjectives that set the tone of the story. It uses words like, “ghosts and howled”. The sentences use punctuation like commas and are compound sentences. The amount of words vary on the page but it is usually about 20 ish words per page. Some of the creepier words are bolded and some are written in different fonts. The text is not predictable, as they are trying to keep readers on their toes. This book isn’t too complex but would be a solid read for an average second grader. The reading level is a 1 and is for beginner readers, but I think the content of the book is too advanced for this age of readers.

This book has more advanced words that children might not have seen before like “Muhammad, mumbled, juggles..etc.”. There is dialogue in the sentences, as well as compound sentences throughout the book. I noticed they used some different types of words, such as cultural vocabulary and synonyms for smaller words. The pictures help students decode the story but don’t tell the story on their own. They definitely add context to the text but just enough to where it could help push the reader along and still have some understanding if they aren’t understanding the story. This differs from other books we’ve read because it’s spread out throughout chapters and has some filler dialogue in between the beginning, middle and end of the story. This book is a level 2 and meant for 5-8 year olds.

The sentences are longer compound sentences that include commas and different types of punctuation. There is dialogue as well as text. I found it unique that it was from the narrators point of view but also included dialogue of all of the characters talking. I also thought it was interesting about how the text was layed out on the page and was kind of scattered. The illustrations don’t support the words as much as the other books we’ve read but can definitely give some contextual indications of what’s going on. They are more decorations than anything. The comprehension demands of this story are that you are able to read words (that are made up) and use context clues to figure out what they’re talking about. The reader might want to have a good imagination before reading this book. This is a 2nd level reading book and is good for 1st-2nd graders.

These sentences are complex, have a lot of dialogue and are compound. I found it interesting that some of the dialogue or the more important words were bolded that they wanted to emphasize. The words fill the pages with regards to small pictures in the middle. The pictures are definitely decorations, as they don't give much contextual understanding to the book, but could absolutely keep a reader on track with the story. This book is demanding of time and focus as it is a longer book. The reader needs to be familiar with chapter books and have an extensive vocabulary for the grade level of this book. The reading level is a 2, which I disagree with because of how long this book is.

This book shows us it is non-fiction because it gives you specific dates, as well as the title being “Tails from History”. The reader would need to have an understanding of non-fiction books and how to look out for them. Some of the names in the book might be confusing for a reader, as they aren’t common names, so the reader would need to understand that. The reading level is a 2 but I easily think this could be a kindergarten-1st grade book.

This book is in frames and pictures, as the pictures are the biggest part of the book. This book is about a Narwhal that is swimming in the sea and meeting new friends. The book adds fun facts about Narwhals, as well as silly storylines about them eating waffles. This book could be read by anyone in grades 1-4, as it is quite simple, it just is long and takes dedication to read.

The text in this book is a lot more informational and is set up like captions to the pictures. This book’s features has labels, a side bubble of text understanding, captions…etc. The reader needs to first understand that this is an informational book and not a story. I think vocabulary on animals would be very helpful. This differs from a fiction story because theres no dialogue and the pictures are for informational purposes compared to contextual indicators. This book is for grades 1-3, which I think is appropriate when taking into consideration the content.

This story is structured with frames that look like someone drew and wrote themselves. The drawing looks like a child’s handwriting as do the pictures. This story is about a dog who goes through a procedure to have a police body and has half the strengths and weaknesses of both humans and dogs. Dog man is the book hero, as he fights off all the villains in the story. I think the readers need to understand a good amount of vocabulary to read and understand this book because of how funky the story line is. I think the reading level for this book would be anything second grade and up, as it could be a harder read for second grade but a more chill ready for 4th and 5th.
