The definition of jazz is "a type of music of black American origin characterized by improvisation, syncopation, and usually a regular or forceful rhythm, emerging at the beginning of the 20th century." This definition doesn't really give a good idea of what jazz really is. Jazz music and the musicians started a culture that changed the way people dressed and danced but more importantly Jazz changed many people's frame of mind. People were grieving because of world war I until the jazz movement came. The upbeat, fun and jolly sound of Jazz found a way to change the people's mood and move on from the harsh war.
