As I read some of the articles about this retraction, I came to the conclusion that it is not as authentic as it appears. The evidences are insufficient to prove the document's accuracy and authenticity. The disagreement between the original document and the released retraction documents sparked even more debate because the text differed significantly from that found in the Jesuits and Archbishop.

To summarize, whether or not Jose Rizal retracted, I believe that the retraction document was more of Rizal's moral courage in admitting his mistakes. Perhaps he retracted and returned to his faith, but this does not diminish Rizal's stature as a great hero with such greatness.

Many historians debate whether Jose Rizal retracted his statements about the Catholic Church in the Jose Rizal Retraction controversy. "I retract with all my heart whatever in my words, writings, publications, and conduct has been contrary to my character as a son of the Catholic Church," the document stated, leading historians to believe Rizal had retracted. However, there have been claims that the document was a forgery when compared to the original file discovered by Fr. Manuel Garcia, an archdiocesan archivist, in 1935. Regardless of these claims, several people believe the retraction documents are genuine. Eleven eyewitnesses who were present when Rizal wrote his retraction, signed a Catholic prayer book, recited Catholic prayers, and the crowd who saw him kiss the crucifix before his execution are among those named. According to Fr. Marciano Guzman, Rizal's great grandnephew, Rizal's four confessions were witnessed by five eyewitnesses, ten qualified witnesses, seven newspapers, and twelve historians and writers, including Aglipayan bishops, Masons, and anti-clericals.
