Change can be a scary thing, so the most important piece of guiding students through it is to have a trusting relationship with them so they know you are doing what is best for them. Another step is to create a safe environment for students where they feel free coming to you with anything, this will be crucial not only for them but you too because when changing things feedback is very helpful. Communication is important, you want your students to feel comfortable, and being in the loop on what is going on is a big step in that.
