In the book he sent a text message to his friend which he wrote "need an appointment this afternoon if that is ok" So we know he is facing a problem and also virgil read that your pet giunea pig needs to have a friend some one to play with or they would sufffer from depression so that is another thing that is proboley bothering him. 

The character Virgil faces problems where he met up with this bully when he was trying to go to the appiontment that he set up with this girl and he met his bully that he calles "bull" and he was scared of his bully I can tell  because he started to walk away from his bully when he saw his bully trying to talk. Which would probaly end him in the hospital. " Retarted" thats what his bully would always call him.

The charater meant he was not a strong boy and would not face a kid like that when the charater Virgil said this "I dont even have a sister ignoramus alerternative Virgil would say then he would grab bulls shirt callor in his skinny little hand the one with the fingers of a gifted pianst and shove him near the nearest tree". So that tells me he is trying to be somebody he is not so he is not that confident in him self that part tells alot about the charater. 

I am at the part where he is at his friends house and from just reading a little bit of it it sounds like kaori is nerdy because To get into there house the pasword is Venus rises in the west. and in her room there pictures of constellations so she is probaly into science and likes things like that. I also noticed how Virgil likes to think deeper in to things like questions about god and those kind of things.

I can tell he is very scared because he takes a different route to get to his destination. Another trouble the main character faces is pig looks like he is suffering from depression and that is hard on him because he wants to keep him alive and the problem is that he has to try to convince his parents to get another pig and his grandmother is in on it and she is always on Virgil side. Another problem the character faces is he is calling him self a failure just because he can't do this on thing which is hurdles and that is not good thats another reason why he tries to be someone he is not.  
I realized that Virgil said something that said a lot about him "when I was a little girl". I dont think he knows how to be a dad to a eleven year old girl". So he calles him self a girl and he is a boy so he thinks he is a girl maybe because he is weak or something maybe he does and action t hat makes him a girl but h
e seems like he does not belive in him self a lot and he is shy so all that could explain why his parents call him a turtle.
