Stomp and Say helps students practice segmenting and counting syllables in words. Use hands to “stomp” each syllable of a word. Kids listen, watch, and count the stomps. Then have kids do it with you. And last, have kids do it themselves.

Students will roll a die. They will go to the corresponding row and read the letters or words as fast as they can.

Start this activity with a root word, such as push. Have your students come up with words they know that contain that word, such as: pushing, pushed, pushover, push-up, etc. Have a class discussion about all these words and how some have some shared meaning related to the word push.

1. Word Charades

   Act out a word and have your child guess what it could be. Expand on this by ensuring they understand the meaning of the word.

2. Vocabulary Bingo

   Create a bingo card with different words.

In regard to literacy, it means that we are able to read a passage or text, process it, and understand any meaning behind it.

After reading a story or passage, ask your students to come up with a word that is related to the book, and to write a sentence using that word, one for each letter of the alphabet!

Charlotte's Web:

• A - Fern's brother Avery climbed into a crate and pretended to be a pig.

• B - Mrs. Zuckerman thinks Wilbur should have a buttermilk bath before the fair.

• C - Charlotte the spider befriends Wilbur and helps save his life.
