I, as a student, really look up to him as an idol because OPM is a genre of music that I take to heart. And One time during our catch-up Friday mapeh class, we got a chance to read and learn about his life. He came from a family with his parents, Alberto Austria Cayabyab and Celerina Venson Pujante, and his 3 siblings. His mom was an opera singer but died when he was just 6 years old. His mom made sure to not let her children become a disciple of music because of how hard life could get in terms of money. Though, Mr. Cayabyab proved his mom wrong by being the father of OPM today. He has really inspired me regarding music. I have been more supportive of local music ever since I acknowledged his works.

From what I have learned Raymundo Cipriano Pujante Cayabyab, also known ay Ryan Cayabyab, he is a Filipino musician, composer and conductor. He was Executive and Artistic Director for several years of the defunct San Miguel Foundation for the Performing Arts. At age 15 he was able to secure a job as a pianist of a bank's chorale group, Cayabyab initially took up a bachelor's degree in business administration major in accounting at University of the Philippines, Diliman, as a way to honour his mother's request.

The lesson I learnt from Ryan Cayabyab is that do not let anything stop you, you need to keep working hard, because what is going to help you achieve your passions and dreams?, this is one way that you would help you achieve it, you can't always rely on luck. Sometimes you have to be creative in your own way, because that's how you make an impact and inspire other to do what they love

At the tender age of 4, Ryan Cayabyab was already taking piano lessons from music students' boarders while accompanying his mother on the UP campus.

Ryan Cayabyab's mother, an opera singer and a professor at the University of the Philippines College of Music, passed away when he was 6 due to cancer. She requested that none of her children pursue a career in music, as she didn't want them to face the same hardships she endured in the music industry.

After graduating from college, he devoted almost two decades to being a full-time professor in the Department of Composition and Music Theory at UP Diliman.
