A common trend seen across nations is a sort "blame game," where people following right-wing media and left-wing media blame each other for not acting in the correct way. We believe that this is due to the fact that people tend to follow media that reinforces their bias, rather than gaining different perspectives from different sources.

Climate change and environmental issues are not enough emphasized in my country, Italy. Most of the times they focus on economics and politics, forgetting to give the visibility that this fundamental argument deserves. Because of this, it is also difficult to find differences in the way Right parties and Left parties speak about environmental issues. In general, young people especially because of social media e tech have much more information and knowledge about what's happening to the planet compared to older people.

In our experience (from the UK, Germany and the Netherlands), environmental issues are discussed in a way that the media tries to create awareness and inform people about how urgent it is. They try to motivate people to actively start participating in changing our consumption or behavior. However, we’ve experienced that in all of our home countries most right-wing media outlets do not focus as much on climate change issues because the target audience for right wing news outlets is usually an older demographic. Whereas left-wing outlets focus on a young demographic and try to engage them with climate change issues. In terms of people’s response to environmental issues, it is very varied. Ranging from being very active both online and offline to not really caring about this topic at all. It definitely has to do with the media that they are exposed to, as everyone experiences a form of media bias for their preconceived ideas about topics.

In Europe, left wing media is more outspoken and addressing the issues being faced, while left wing is more extreme and can deny it is even happening. In the gulf countries, they are very dependent on oil and have a controlled media system with limited freedom of speech, leading to climate change not being a common topic. Finally in China, they are known to have right leaning media, most of the main media companies are connected to the government, however, there is also self owned media (user generated content) that is more outspoken about environmental issues, also large corporations can be outspoken when doing CSR campaigns for promotion.

all of us come from different countries with different media climates, hence we are sharing different responses below:

Singapore - most major media outlets are generally state-owned, so we see a lot of reporting on how ministers are attending important sustainability summits, supporting company-driven sustainability campaigns etc. but we don't necessarily see a lot of coverage on the possible mistakes/errors made by the government with regards to climate efforts

Belarus - media is not really focusing on global environmental problems, since people are way more worried about economical issues in their daily lives. few notes about specific country's puzzlements can be made through media sometimes.

Netherlands - media landscape is more neutral, because the major newspapers and outlets with a bit of a left wing perspective. However the population is more polarised when it comes to politics and environment. The social media algorithm pushes people further into context that fits their beliefs.

In SG, there isn't really a different left-leaning or right-leaning media since the media landscape is sort of controlled by the govt so views are typically homogeneous. They portray issues of climate change as something that can be averted through individual behaviour changes, and encourages this while promoting the govt's new policies for sustainability and environment-protection. People generally respond to it positively, and use these for information. However, I am not sure how much actionable change is implemented based on this coverage.
