Also, no one has a childhood at all, so there is no opportunity to experience and create happy memories. There is even a competition to create the most embryos from a single ovary. Meters have individual roles in processing the embryos including ones that condition them and control their rate of maturity for their future fated careers. “The procession advanced; one by one, the eggs were transferred from the test tubes to the larger containers; …” (9)

We also see it when they are made to see that roses and books are scary to some. They want to make sure that everything the citizens do leads to better economy and doesn't lead them to gaining information from the books. It destroys autonomy and consent which totalitarian societies often lack. It proudly enjoys sex and drugs without the holy guilt and shame that came with the past’s Christianity and God and Heaven. However, it neglects the importance of religious values. Bernard brought Linda and John to show that the Director left them just because he was scared. "he has proved himself an enemy of Society, a subverter, ladies and gentlemen, of all Order and Stability, a conspirator against Civilization itself. For this reason I propose to dismiss him." We can also see how little they care about individuals saying that if dies it shouldn't matter because they can make many more with the same characteristics (labels) giving all those people living in the world state no sense of individuality. "Murder kills only the individual -- and, after all, what is an individual?"
