         <description><![CDATA[<div>With incorporating <strong>diagnostic assessment</strong> in our classroom structure, we can get information we need to understand our students' knowledge and it's a great way to engage the whole classroom. (Prodigy Game, 2021)<br><br>With <strong>diagnostic assessments, </strong>they can help benchmark student progress. It would be worth incorporating the diagnostic assessment at the end of the unit so students can see how far they've come. (Prodigy Game, 2021)<br><br>There are different kinds of <strong>diagnostic assessments</strong> such as the following:&nbsp;</div><ul><li>Short quizzes</li><li>Journal entries</li><li>Student interviews</li><li>Student reflections</li><li>Classroom discussions</li><li>Graphic organizers (e.g., mind maps, flow charts, KWL charts)</li></ul><div><br><em>Prodigy</em>, a technological tool that is a game-based learning platform, can be a great way to use the <strong>diagnostic tool</strong> which is playful and engaging for the students.          <description><![CDATA[<div>There are different types of assessments that can help us understand student progress in different ways. with this understanding, it can inform us about the <a href="https://www.prodigygame.com/blog/teaching-strategies/">teaching strategies</a> we use, and help lead us to apply adaptations when needed.<br><br></div><div>In a classroom, assessments really have one of three aims:</div><ol><li>Assessment <strong><em>of</em></strong> learning</li><li>Assessment <strong><em>for</em></strong> learning</li><li>Assessment <strong><em>as</em></strong><em> </em>learning</li></ol><div><br><strong>1) Assessment of Learning:<br></strong>We can use assessment to assist in checking to see if students are meeting their grade-level standards. Examples of this type of assessment can include a portfolio of a student's work, research paper, short answers for open ended questions, an essay, or a laboratory investigation. <br><br><strong>Student Outcomes: </strong>A study done in three school districts across California shows student outcomes that include...<br>- Deeper learning - students benefit greatly from the the critical thinking aspect of performance assessments and reflecting on their experiences<br>- College and career readiness - performance assessments increase academic rigor which helped students prepare for higher learning and the real world beyond<br>- Social-emotional skills - performance assessments can and should be challenging which students felt helped them with personal growth, perseverance, problem-solving, and a growth-mindset<br><br><br>Sources:<br>Maier, A.
