In 2010, the world met the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goal (MDG) to have the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water. This was 5 years ahead of schedule. More than 2 billion people gained access to improved water sources from 1990 to 2010.
However, 663 million people are still without an improved drinking water source. And sanitation has been slower to improve. 2.4 billion people still lack access to basic sanitation services, such as toilets or latrines.

This article is about the progress that has been made regarding clean water and sanitation in the past 25 years. In this article, it is mentioned that there has been better access to water throughout the world; however, there has been a failure to meet the global target for improved sanitation. This lack in sanitation effects the prevention of tropical diseases and it plays a large part in child survival rates. There are statistics in the article that support their claim that the progress in recent years hasn’t been fast enough with sanitation.
-Katie
