Elementary School Lesson Plans and Results Reports

Lesson Plan: Social Emotional Learning Skills

Result Report Level: Unit of classroom lessons: 1 of 10

The selected mindsets and/or behaviors were belief in development of whole self, including a healthy balance of mental, social/emotional and physical well-being. This is a good selection because students need to understand themselves so they can then relate and communicate with others. My mindset and/or behavior I would have selected would be apply self-motivation and self-direction to learning. I would use this because I want my students to learn how to motivate themselves when they become frustrated with their work. I would want them to take a deep breath and give themselves motivation sentence, so they uplift themselves. I would encourage them to take a break from their work if they get frustrated.

Pre and post assessment: The pre and post assessment both align because they are both talking about the students' emotions. In the beginning it addresses the different emotion's the student may have, and, in the end, it shows students that emotions are normal and how to get through them. I think it would not align with the mind and/or behaviors because it does not really target the social aspect of it. I would have put in the lesson plan that we need to respect others around us and treat people the way we want to be treated.

Lesson content/ materials: I think the lesson content and materials did align with the mindset and/or behaviors because they learn how they their whole selves have emotions and learn to balance them. They are being physically when trying to distract and relax the body.

Timing of lesson: I think the timing was perfect for the topic. The time in the lesson plan was 30 minutes and I think that more than enough time to address emotions the students. I think that it had a positive impact on this lesson because I'm sure the students had fun learning about their emotions and reading and dancing.

Ways I would modify the lesson: I would make it creative by having the kids play emotional charades so they can demonstrate how they see emotions. While we are playing emotional charades, I will correct any emotions that they interrupt incorrect. I think I would change the mindset and/or behavior to Identify long and short-term academic, career and social/emotional goals. I would want it to be known that this is an ongoing learning experience. We will make it a short-term goal where I would check back in with them after three weeks to see how much progress they made with expressing their emotions appropriately.
